I don't think I'll be able to do much for 85% of the bort, because all I can do is poast. I'm talking about repeated interaction over the phone and in person, hours long conversations that take me away from other activities. The last time I did this, I had to literally pay out of my own pocket for someone to see a psychiatrist who does talk therapy. This person had to have several sessions with this psychiatrist before he gained the courage to accept what I was telling him. He has not repaid me for those therapy sessions and I have no asked him to.

I think what's happening now is a spillover effect from that. Many diplomatic posts are still vacant, and the ones that have been filled are filled largely by people with DoD backgrounds. The State Department tried to shift emphasis to proxies it could use to run operations on China (see Kamala visiting the embassy in Hanoi), but then China started flashing its new missiles and that whole initiative became stillborn. The idea was that Vietnam could hit China and China would not hit back as long as Vietnam was protected by the US nuclear umbrella, but 90 days later it makes no sense to talk of our nuclear umbrella at all.
