you should buy a ski house in a place that is fun to ski, i.e. the west

honestly i wouldn't want to own a house there (since you wouldn't have any privacy no matter what).

maybe i'd get a 2BR condo though.

Bought a place on the lake a few years ago. Have four kids and it's been phenomenal to be able to spend 2-3 straight weeks there in the summer and then pop up on random weekends in the summer or even off season. Love that it's a tradition of sorts and the kids/family build memories there.

My only big fear is that as the kids age they'll (rightfully so) want to spend time with their friends and social circle and not have an appetite for spending 2-3 weeks up at the lake.

You can usually work out some deals like bringing two of your kids and their best friends while other kids do other stuff. In general a lot of modern families are too nuclear and it’s better to spend time with different groups instead of force-meaning whole family trips.

Yeah, I worry about things like summer camp and competitive sports as the kids get older.

But pricing out what I need to pay for ski house rentals these days (since we have multiple kids, need grandparent baby sitters, etc) it almost makes it seem possible/shrewd to just buy a place and maybe tent it out sometimes.

Doesnt it cost $millions to buy a house on lake George? I'd rather buy in some nice euro place. Could get a nice villa in marbella but looking for other options
