Colt is terrible at marketing. You don't see 20 random new Colts at sporting goods stores like with S&W. The actual quality is worse but they are SCARCE which gives them a mystique of sorts. I've never seen a new irl Colt for sale anywhere ever iirc. |

you get some credit for pre 1900 existence but it wasn't until the 1900s that you started to see more of the combination design + engineering + manufacturing combo companies. Before that (and through the early 1900s) you were mostly just taking some independent inventor or small engineering firm's design and cranking them out with some minor changes

There are plenty of smaller, super boutique brands as well. Beretta, in a way, is like the Montblanc of shotguns: a flagship brand that carries a lot of weight among the laity, but the real power collectors view it as entry level. The remaining gun types are not prestigious. |

I've never shot a Krieghoff but other than the craftsmanship do they shoot any smoother or more accurate than a $1500 beretta? Some of those guns are like $9k. I use my tiny pink Beretta a400 Parallel Target semi auto and basically shoot just as well as a lot of these guys. |
