When I was diagnosed T1 in my 30s my A1C was around that.

About 10% of T1 diagnoses are adults. Typically it's misdiagnosed as T2 unless you are an advanced case.
When I was diagnosed I had dropped almost 25 lbs even though I had an insatiable appetite and was constantly lethargic and irritable.
