Overall, they didn’t do too bad. Invented civilization and agriculture on their own and seemed to have empires roughly along the lines of Bronze Age civs. Most of NA was at a Mesolithic type level, which while primitive compared to elsewhere, seemed to give a much higher quality of life then the classical ancient world and medieval Europe. |

The only somewhat credited thing about Diamond’s thesis is how beneficial it is to have a latitude-oriented large continent versus longitudinal. But that better explains Africa (where the main latitudinal bulge is mostly desert) than North America where there’s a really long stretch of east-west land in Canada, US and northern Mexico. |
