No.

Totally natural to be temporarily depressed after thuogh. That said, if you're still depressed after a few weeks, you're probably mentally ill.

This depends on age. Losing a parent or sibling when you’re 10 is a lot different than when you’re 35 and have a spouse and kids of your own.

One of my parents has a rare neurological condition and is fast approaching the point of so little quality of life that keeping them alive is cruelty (if they aren’t yet there already). They went from living alone with a great career to requiring 24 hour care in a memory care facility in about a year. The other parent is out of the picture, and my one sibling is an undependable loser, so everything fell on me. Also, as part of the disease, this parent tried to cut me out of their estate and fought my initial use of POA to the point that it went to trial.

So yeah, I’m fucking depressed.

Also, it all coincided with some mild professional disaster which was caused in part by the family shit I was dealing with.

Absolutely true. Oh, what I would give for them to have just died in a car accident.

They basically lost the ability to speak 6 months ago, lost most ability to walk 2 months ago, and now needs help with everything except for eating. This is someone who was on top of their game just a couple years ago. Top of their profession. It has been terrible to watch. We didn’t even get a proper diagnosis until 12 months ago, and I had to deal with the ethical dilemma of explaining the diagnosis. Oh, also, they were a top tier physician, so they are hyper aware of what’s happening to them and what’s going to happen to them. They spent a month reading everything they could about the disease. They tell me the most depressing stuff about wanting to do things before they die, things that I know will never happen.

I’ve basically been on suicide watch for the past year. I think my friends and other family (who are all scattered across the US due to GC) can sense the change and are extra kid-gloves with me.

Oh, except for my cunt gf who is about to get dumped.

Well, it’s hereditary, so that’s always in the back of my mind. Why do you say that, though?
