A new conservative country needs to have ports because of the possibility that new blue countries and Canada will cut off deliveries of fuel or any other eseentials out of spite. For the hypo assume Texas can be held on to for 10 years and a national divorce occurs within 10 years.

It's not landlocked because of Texas. What's the issue with the mountain range? It's not like infrastructure is underdeveloped. Canada and the West Coast would be hostile.

In the hypo it's possible the Eastern US will also break itself apart. The Midwest and South would not be hostile. And even if the entire Eastern US remains intact and is hostile, why would it make the new nation impossible?

The Texas of 1990 had Democrats holding the following statewide offices: Lt. Gov., Attorney General, Comptroller, Treasurer, Ag. Commissioner, Land Commissioner, and one of the Senators.

Texas of 1990 also had Democrat majorities in the US House Delegation, the Railroad Commission, and in both houses of the state legislature.

Texas was a blue state in 1990 with just a couple of hints of purple. It was in 2000 when Texas went red.

There's decent industry in Texas and Colorado, but very likely this country would become a TTT oligarchy of a cabal of oil and Big Agriculture elites who sacrifice economic policy to prioritize energy and food exports. Similar to resource curse.

Was Texas or Oklahoma ever under an oligarchy?

Politically the country would be run by oil and agricultural interests, who would insist on a sort of trade and tariff strategy that wouldn't be good for real economic growth. POTUS Ted Cruz yelling about the constitution and limited government while selling out, etc.

Makes way more sense to just lump Nebraska, Kansas, OK, Texas in with the South, and South also keeps Georgia, NC, WV and even VA should be bisected somewhere around Richmond. Relocating/eminent domaining all of ND, SD, MT, WY, ID is like half the population and a third of the price of NYC. Should be worth it for the south to get back GA and NC and keep the majority of the oil and natural gas in the country. Maybe also some horse trading around Ohio, Indiana and Iowa. Won’t ever happen, though. In 2030 Texas, Georgia and NC are lost forever and there’s zero chance of a full blown secession happening in two POTUS cycles with all the other bullshit going on right now.

The problem with incorporating the South into this new country is the very hostile opposition of blacks.

Texas Mexicans aren't bad at all and unplugged from the national Judeo-Liberal media industrial complex they would be completely fine. This country would basically be a petro-state (Gulf of Mexico, texas, colorado, north dakota) with all of the benefits and limitations from that. It would have a big population, big ports, and most of the country's refinery capacity.

It would honestly be a pretty 180 place. We could call it Greater Texas.

Thirty-two U.S. states produce oil. About 69% of total U.S. crude oil production in 2019 came from five states: Texas (41.4%), North Dakota (11.6%), New Mexico (7.4%), Oklahoma (4.7%), and Colorado (4.2%).

I think this country would be pretty anti-communist.

A 90% white/Latino country with the conservative outlook of America in 1990 sounds like a stable political entity.

venezuela sucks because it's like 90% pure mayan third worlders. This hypothetical state would be largely whites of American stock and upbringing with a mestizo minority.

It wouldn't be Norway but it also wouldn't be anywhere near as shitty as Venezuela

Just do the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nebraska. You have tons of natural resources, low population density, good population quality. Would be a great country.
