I stopped investing in the market last may. Going to start back up again this morning and just buy in slowly.

I thought about pulling out of stocks and putting it on something flat like bonds Friday/over the weekend but didn’t pull the trigger. Was that the CR move? Did that in late Feb 2020 pre shutdown and crash to 18k or whatever in March 2020 and was happy for like 6 weeks but then didn’t jump right back in when CSLG called the bottom and lost out on like 10% gains before I got back in later in the year. This all still feels pretty omicron driven ie if the Covid numbers drop fast in Feb then a lot of this comes back and the play is to buy more now.

When you combine the fact that stock prices (measured in terms of P/E ratio) are near historic highs and the fact that the Fed is in the process of raising rates, I think there is a very high probability of a correction this year. And I don't think that more favorable COVID numbers are likely to change that. Also bonds are almost certain to lose money this year given that interest rates are almost certainly going to increase.

That said, timing the market is almost always a sucker's game. If I were sitting on a pile of cash, I would probably just dollar-cost average into the market to hopefully avoid investing a bunch of money right before a correction. A high-yield rental property is also worth considering if you can find one given that mortgage rates are still very low by historical standards. But make sure that the cash flow is reliable given that it's unlikely that recent appreciation in the real estate market will continue.

Same -- I need to review things tonight, but I generally try to keep a consistent % of assets in the market (about 60%). With the latest downturn, I believe I need to rebalance some more cash into the market.

I don't try to predict the future (no idea if this is the bottom or we drop another 25%), just rebalance based on what has already occurred.

Totally fine with real estate. Would love a few more rental properties. But housing seems pretty stable still. Seems like we need job losses for foreclosures to hit.
