Link to evidence that the U.S. plotted revolutions in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia? Or the idea that NATO tried to turn the former Soviet block against Russia?
Come on, do you seriously buy this Russian propaganda? Maybe, just maybe, Latvia and Estonia saw what Russia has done in Georgia and Ukraine and wanted to join NATO to make sure that Russia didn't do the same thing to them. When has a NATO country ever made an incursion into Russian territory or even that of a Russian ally? It has literally never happened in the history of the alliance. Russia's own aggression toward its neighbors is the biggest reason its neighbors want to ally themselves with NATO.
I am aware that Moscow is completely indefensible once you can station troops in Latvia/Estonia/Ukraine. I see why that scares the hell out of Putin. But for crying out loud, at one point Russia itself was a candidate for NATO membership. If he wanted to make sure that NATO troops never marched into Moscow, he could have joined them rather than picking a fight with them.
It seems pretty clear to me that Putin recognizes that his people are getting frustrated after 15 years of stagnant growth and his best path to staying in power is to convince the populace that he is the only one who can protect them from the evil Yankees. There is really no rational reason to be so antagonistic otherwise.
