FFXIV is a more siloed experience, It's essentially a dress up game with an empty overworld that serves as a waiting room, most of the content is accessed through a menu that queues you up and teleports you to content/encounters

World of Warcraft 2004 had a much better open world organic culture, It's a Japanese thing i guess, they're afraid of systems which foster player interaction because theyre admittedly timid people, this is covered in a few documentaries

Hard to see the heart of it, autism rates skyrocketing, noone can communicate/has the desire to have a shared community, MMOs as a genre have been dead for 20 years practically, at this point it might aswell be a single player experience with scripted NPCs

There's really been a shmup renaissance on PC. We used to pay 40-60 dollars for these games, but now there are nearly endless pretty good to great shmups that you can grab for $2-$20, plus lots of ports of past games.

Master of Orion - Sliders haven't been replicated since and massively reduce micromanaging and end game bog, generally balanced unique races, ship designing isn't overwhelmingly opaque. Sure, if you go back and look at what the game could have been if they fully fleshed out everything in between, it's disappointing. But it's also possible that a game that length could have dragged, because it was already pretty long and it had a high random encounter rate.

We can only judge the game we have, and I'd rather they did what they did to finish it and give something self-contained, rather than leave it on a cliffhanger.
