These are the friends who never really got solid career going, but who still spent their late 20s and early 30s trying to figure their shit out.
At this point, they clearly are not trying to figure their shit out and only care about getting by until their parents die and leave them money.
I think they'd be better off if they knew they'd never inherit a cent.

Some tried to do stuff in the arts before trying to move to a real career in late 20s.
Some have had real jobs the entire time but are just not cut out to be successful in the real world (despite being smart).

Former -- Yeah. I have a bunch of friends who successfully pivoted from the arts to successful professional / entrepreneurial careers.
Latter -- mix of anxiety and low conscientiousness making them underperform in the workplace. That combined with being indecisive (eg. staying at a company for 4 years even though it was clear after 6 months they should move on)

This thread makes me want to post about a ne'er-do-well I know about.
She got married pretty young, like 25, and had 3 kids at like 27, 29, and 35. Shortly after the third kid, her marriage fell apart and she started spinning. They got divorced and he got custody of the kids.
Her dad died young. Then her mom died young. So by around 40 she's now single, dating around going from place to place, sometimes working, sometimes not, just listless and she inherits about $1.5m and, I kid you not, 5 different SFHs, two of which had mortgages.
Every penny was gone within 3 years. Every house gone. All the money gone.
She now lives in a school bus. She shits and pisses in a bucket. About once a week, a former boyfriend takes pity on her and lets her come over and take a shower, after which he fucks her and feeds her lunch, then sends her on her way. Her kids are grown now and from the last I heard, they don't come around too much.

i know a dude like this and it's just creepy and sad as fuck
guy is in his late 30s and literally STILL lives in his parents basement playing video games. it's fucking crazy. i try to invite him out to do stuff but his "sleep schedule" is the complete opposite of everyone in the real world, so it's basically impossible
he has a "trust" from some rich grandparent that he's able to live off of, and for some reason his parents still let him live there. he has single-handedly convinced me that heavily taxing inheritances is actually based and redpilled and good for society

What about a modest trust? Something that starts at 25 and pays out like $1,500 a month for life, and the idea is that you invest it for your kids as soon as you can?
It starts at 25 so hopefully you have a career going by then.
It's not enough that you are starving, so you have an incentive to keep working and building toward something.
$1,500 a month can be very meaningful money, especially in those early years, and it can be a complete lifeline if you get disabled or something.

I used to have a friend (acquaintance?) with a trust with this requirement. No flame, he went to a top UG and then spent years working shitty retail jobs just so he could get his checks from the trustee.
No sure what he's been up to the past 7+ years.
[Edit: Pretty sure he spent years working at a best buy. Really smart guy too]

yeah this is basically his exact situation
the guy essentially lives the life of an invalid on state assistance, for no reason. he could live a regular life and then have an entire extra free income and live like a baller
it really has steeled me against inheritance being a good thing

Sounds based
Me, I'm in my mid-late 30s but I'm waiting for them to die so I can kill myself

i don't get it.
assuming they're working normal white collar jobs and making >$100k, what exactly are they deprived of that they would have if they got some 6-7 fig inheritance?
