I don’t think most of my colleagues do more than 10 hours of real work per week. Everyone has random blocks of time on their calendar and things don’t seem to get done as quickly as they used to. Also more people seeing therapists and complaining about depression. Doesn’t seem like people are getting any fitter either.

The post-COVID flexibility is the best of both worlds. I work from home every Friday. If I really don't want to go into work on a given day, I just say fuck it and stay home. Sometimes i'll go in at 9:30ish, sometimes i'll go in at noon. If I want to leave at 4pm it's NBD

The problem with WFH is that your boomer overlords in any traditional company, including bigtech, want you to put in the face time because they realize everyone is taking naps in the afternoon (theyre doing that too actually). They don’t want to pay you to dick around all day. So they’re only going to promote the ones who show up at the office. The ones promoted who keep hawking office “culture” will sideline those who are permanent wfh. If you care about your career at all, you will have to go back at least hybrid. That’s just the reality of it.
