California just does what it wants anyway. most recently, the state said fuck it, we'll just manufacture our own insulin. we're a couple short years away from universal healthcare. can't pass reasonable gun control at the federal level? oh well, we don't care, we'll pass it here. overturn Roe v Wade? don't care about that either. we have massively expanded Medicaid and Obamacare too far beyond what federal law lets any other state do. we can do that because we pay for it. 5th largest economy in the world propping up all the useless welfare states.

It's also more or less meaningless because all the other shitbox houses appreciate at the same rate. So you can't really cash out unless you decide to move to Alabama for retirement, which most coastal CA people would never deign to do.

It is true that California has a higher proportion of people without a high school diploma than almost any other state. But the proportion of people with bachelors or advanced degrees is relatively high. And they are not even close to having one of the highest poverty rates in the country.

I don't know where that article got those numbers, but they are wrong. Here is a link directly to the Census Bureau:

There is a link in the article to the census report. It might be using a different metric. Here is the report showing CA has a high poverty rate. https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2021/demo/p60-275.pdf

the worst thing about CA isn't the politics--it's that CA is a balkanized playground of the wealthy which is a completely unrealistic place for the vast majority of americans to live comfortably. the only places where 95% of the country could hope to afford a house are shitholes like bakersfield

when you're just at the age where you only want to rent with roommates yeah it usually comes out decently ahead especially if you're working at FAGMAN in early-mid 20s. but the salary increase is nothing compared to the cost of a house or nice apartment. unless you're making 300k+ you are probably better off renting forever in all the major coastal metros.

Good thing I’m making 400k then.

Most people making less have moved to Sacramento, which wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t 100 degrees 4 months out of the year.

To be fair,

Lol Obeezy shut the fuck up faggot

I love that you're always like "LOL Obeezy broke your brain I'm not Obeezy" under all of your alts (as if that's not an instantly recognizable Obeezy comeback)... but then you're stupid enough to turn around and parrot the exact same "I make $400k btw" gay little brag line under every single alt.

Oh wow look all of the alts who agree with Obeezy on everything and also hate all the same people as Obeezy and use all of his lines also make the same very high and impressive (wow I am so impressed) salary that he does! Wow, no wonder they are all so smart and rich and correct!

Just sad.

Even growing up in LA, you got this sense that the whole "Hollywood cool" LA thing was totally made up. When I would visit South Carolina in middle school or as a teenager, SC kids would ask if LA was cool, my answer was always "LA sucks ass it's ugly, dirty, there's broken shit everywhere and you'll get your ass kicked if you look the wrong way."

All my friends and I talked about growing up was how much we couldn't wait to get out of that shithole. I remember in my 20's when I moved back after college being amazed at people from elsewhere talking about how LA was like some sort of Mecca of awesomeness, it blew my mind. I remember talking to a guy who worked with me on a TV show, he was from Kansas and saved his money to come out and work in Hollywood, and how this was his dream and he couldn't imagine a cooler place than LA. I remember talking to him, asking "what do you like so much? the smog? sitting in traffic? there being trash everywhere and all the sidewalks being dirty and cracked with bum shit all over it? The fact that 2/3 of the city is a hellscape where nobody speaks English and you can get shot if you get caught after dark?"

Yea, it was bizarre place to grow up. On one hand is very pretty and there was some wealthy people who lived there, on the other hand you were close to some ugly shit. I remember driving by the old Rockwell International Plant and they would just be these huge rusting machines just sitting out there doing nothing. There was a bizarre culture where really bad things happened growing up that I didn't even really appreciate, like in a span of 24 months on the football team we lost one of our best receivers because he got shot in the leg, to which we all made fun of him, and then our safety got killed to death by bullets and for some reason kids all kind of thought it was a joke. Like no kidding, it wasn't like a big tragedy that people cried over, the guy was just dead one day and we all kind of chuckled about it and actually gave him credit because he was always claiming he was a gangster, and actually it turns out he kind of was a gangster and he died. But none of us gave a shit, at the time my biggest concern was that he was a pretty good safety and his replacement wasn't all that great.

One of my friends 6 year old little sister's got kidnapped by some sort of crazy Pakistani guy and the guy raped her like a million times and then dismembered her and tried to dispose the body in this plastic suitcase, for some reason I remember what the guy looked like. I knew that something bad was happening, I was probably 9, but when you're a kid nothing seems unusual so I just kind of figured that kind of thing happens. I guess at least that event made the news and people talked about that.

There was an abandoned rail line behind my little league baseball complex, and I used to go walk back there with people and it was like this 75 yard wide stretch of just gravel that seemed to run forever and every inch of it was covered with broken bottles and beer cans it was just this endless stretch of trash and broken stuff.

I've all sorts of early memories from the place, near my first house there was a tunnel that connected my neighborhood to the other side of the 101 freeway, it was maybe a hundred yards and dark as hell and there'd be all sorts of weird people down there but my friends and I would ride bikes through it as fast as we could to get to the 7-Eleven to play video games. It was so sketchy and so shitty. I look at my kids as being so lucky that they don't have to grow up in a place like that.

Bonus: link to scetchy tunnel: 5643 Shirley Ave

https://maps.app.goo.gl/HY2vUEewsD3TVhy2A

But yeah LA has some hot chicks and some of the bars are good I guess and there's good jobs there so I'm guessing these guys who love LA will be fine.

CSLG has the plan, if you can make millions it is a really nice place

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're referring to both their physical safety - living in a place where there are clear (aka traditional) boundaries against public antisocial behavior, an emphasis on preserving public spaces, and so on - and also the generally more wholesome culture in your part of the world.

The only thing I miss is LA high school football, I miss that whole scene, but that's it.

There's like this whole subculture out there around High School football and I'll still occasionally fly out to the games. It's something that you'd expect in a place like Texas or south carolina, but there's a relatively large group of people who are really excited about high school football in Los Angeles and I was/am one of them.

I follow Calabasas High School football closely and I always watch the games when they're televised

You know what's funny, I had no idea that such a scene existed when I was growing up (I'm from the SoCal suburbs as well, but a completely different atmosphere: a private prep school background where sports were mainly in the context of PE and summer camp, friends after school at the park, etc.)...

...but I can really relate in the sense that I still dream about playing Little League games (was never very good overall, but I had an accurate arm for throwing people out from the outfield, and occasionally had a clutch hit, so that was a nice source of camaraderie), watching in the stands as a high schooler when one of my friends or girlfriends had a younger sibling playing, cheering extra loud for people with fledgling self-esteem who really appreciate it, the list goes on and on...

...And man, there's something about the purity of the whole experience, when there's not so much ambition involved, a lot more love for the game, love for the team esprit de corps, you know I could go on and on like this, so thank you for reading!

So that means you need to put $300,000 down, you're at about 7600 a month on a 30 year fixed for 6.5% and that's before you pay property taxes.

And that's to live directly next to a tunnel of horrors where homeless shoot heroin and there's random homeless people just sitting in front of your house. The tunnel has 40+ Years of graffiti and gang shit wrote out all on the walls. And you guys know that there isn't anyone who's going to lift a finger to do anything about those homeless out there. If you as a homeowner try to harass these people you know damn well that you'll be arrested.

This means that you have to be legitimately financially successful if you don't come from family money to aspire to live a lower middle class lifestyle.

My post above just talked about the place in general being shitty, I didn't even touch on the absolute absurdly unsustainable cost of living situation out there.

If you have a conscience - most libs don't: they are simply excellent Radical Chic performers who put their elite-defined cosmopolitan "status" first, always - then living in a suburban oasis apart from the "progressive" hellscape, as many of us poasters with UMC pedigrees did and/or do: this doesn't change the sad feeling, and overwhelming sympathy for poor whites who have had this "borderless" "tolerant" "liberation" pushed on them by globalist elites and elite collaborators, when considering "our" occupied civilization as a whole.

Also, for the benefit of anyone reading, this is how all people talked - calling a spade a spade, having the proper responses to things, as C.S. Lewis said - before political correctness (tyranny with manners, Charlton Heston called it) colonized many people's minds. Reading pre-WW2 born Christian authors, many sound like "RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS!!!" by post-WW2 extreme left Overton Window standards (read: subversie and corrosive cultural Marxism masquerading as Christianity, a suffocating mental prison).

Funny examples of this are C.S. Lewis circa 1964 lamenting the modern fad of "Hottentots" dressing up as Europeans, when as he reminds us, all our European ancestors used "Barbarian" to refer to uncivilized Europeans, and never conceived of non-European population "assimilation," which is a dehumanizing joke (the globalist dogma of human interchangeability); or consider Chesterton and Belloc, vocal opponents of German "Master Race" nonsense, who repeatedly said that Jews are NOT WHITE, and should be clearly identified as Middle Eastern foreigners when living in Western countries.

Come on man. "The fact that 2/3 of the city is a hellscape where nobody speaks English and you can get shot if you get caught after dark?" I'm not disputing the fact that places like this exist, but 2/3 of the city? That's an absurd exaggeration. And I say this as one who hates LA. I hate the smog and the traffic and not being able to get anywhere without a car. But even I have to concede that most of the city is nice these days. There are a few bad neighborhoods, but that's true in any big city. And there is no reason for a normal person to go to any of these neighborhoods anyway.

That's fair. "Nice" was probably too generous. What I meant was "area where there is no serious risk of being mugged/shot." Most of LA is suburban hell, but that doesn't mean it's unsafe to go there.

Look at the map of the city, anything north of Vanowen in the valley is ghetto, anything East of Silver Lake is awful. Basically downtown anything to the east or south of it until you get to darn El Segundo is awful it's a enormous swath of land that you would never go.

I know Santa Monica's nice, it's beautiful same with Los Feliz & Palos Verdes. But it wasn't until I moved away from Los Angeles that the concept dawned on me that in a lot of places you can go virtually everywhere, is not just a few pockets of nice areas and surrounded by and ethnic ghetto. For example, in Charleston there's maybe two or three pockets of bad neighborhoods and then the rest of the city you can go wherever without fear.

Santa Monica is a dump these days, particularly close to the water near 3rd street and downtown these days. The homeless ride the city busses for free and go back and forth btwn skid row and the beach. North of Montana still nice but it would suck to have a $15m home and not be able to go to your closest downtown.

Ive always thought LA is an exceptionally ugly city esp when you’re driving on the freeway or through major thoroughfares like pico, Olympic etc. LA is nice when you live in a bubble, you don’t have to go anywhere outside a 3 mile radius and you make a lot of money to avoid the hellscape. You go to a party in a Malibu mansion and sit in a pool in January and think “wow this is why people live here” and the owner makes $10m/year and doesn’t have to commute anywhere. there are these neighborhoods where it’s absolutely beautiful, Hancock park, south pas, la Canada etc. but that’s not how most people live including people who are UMC. Nowadays you need at least $2m for something livable.

I remember driving through down downtown LA for some reason in my 20's, and it dawned on me that it was the first time I had ever been there. There is no reason to go.

I've been to the Staples center a million times and of course the museums and the Coliseum, but I had never actually driven around downtown.

Downtown LA has some decent bars and restaurants. It can be a fun place to party occasionally.

wait, wut. someone else in a thread the other day said Santa Monica was nice. i just booked a long weekend down there over Labor Day. we'll be staying at the Loew's. i realize there will be lots of bums in the immediate vicinity of our hotel but we'll be spending one day up in Malibu and another day on the Pacifica Palisades beaches (e.g., Annenberg Beach House or something more private). will that be OK? do you have a recs for that area/that kind of trip?

edit: tyia

I’ve lived in LA for 12 years and this is accurate.

It’s just mind boggling that people think LA is awesome or worthwhile. It’s shitty in most ways (except the weather I guess) and it’s “coolness” is complete flame.

to reiterate nutella, L.A. is no different than MFH. if you have serious money, you can just avoid all the shitty aspects and danger of the city and exist in tiny enclaves of beauty and convenience. the concept of some glamorous hollywood effect on the rest of the city is a joke that naive proles fall for. that culture is long gone and just used for marketing. most of the L.A. elite class are foreign transplants and disgusting old monsters like donald sterling types. you really need to be making $1 million or more a year to even approach a decent lifestyle there and LOL if you have kids.

but if the money is right, there is no denying it can be cool. but that's true of most anywhere. nobody would move to london to make the equal of $200K and expect to live some kind of luxurious lifestyle and have actual security. you'll just get by in an urban hellhole, same as L.A.

No, they have 50 million to build a facility to make insulin and $50 million to develop low cost insulin products. Unclear if this would even be remotely close to enough to do all of this given California pledged 750 million in 2020 to reduce homelessness

The insulin thing is really weird to me. My dog is diabetic and uses human insulin. Walmart sells it for $25/vial OTC and without insurance.

Production can be nationalized with a stroke of a pen or states can shoulder the cost. CA chose not to make it a national issue. Kaiser Permanente probably negotiated the deal.

But if you can already get it at Walmart for $25/vial what's the problem?
