it was in the news for a couple days, with boomer news anchors laughing at retarded gen-x'ers, but that was about it. it wasn't all that significant otherwise. nobody back then actually cared much about it. what i remember as a middle-schooler in '99 were things like the website that tracked bill gates's net worth. not 'woodstock.'

incorrect, it was a huge forcememe for boomer nostalgia regarding peace love and unity before the event, so the fact that it ended in flames with rage and rape made it a completely huge story

It was big in the lead-up and on the cover of every magazine after the event (we judged how important stories were by whether they were on the cover of Time or Newsweek back then)

the weird thing is that Woodstock '94 was about 10x the media event that '99 was.

Woodstock '94 was on TV wall-to-wall coverage for 3 days, made several bands' careers (NIN) and was a huge pop culture event. but no one even talks about it today.

Woodstock '99 was hardly discussed at the time, even after the 'mosh riot' or whatever. no one was even aware of it.

it was a scuzzrock shit show no one wanted anything to do with.

Woodstock 94 was awesome. With the mud, and it broke NIN and Green Day’s careers. Also good set by RHCP. Woodstock 99 wasn’t that bad, Limp Bizkit’s set was pretty good, and although muted, I thought RATM and Metallica was pretty good. I had free ppv for some reason in 94 and watched the whole thing. I stole my dad’s credit card and bought the PPV for Woodstock 99. Overall, fun times never to be had again.

I remember Lollapalooza as being a much bigger deal than any of the 90s Woodstocks.

i'll tell you what 'musical event' i remember being a HUGE fucking deal in the 90's - jerry garcia's death. that really WAS covered heavily for a while. also, the elton john tribute song that he released after diana died. that was actually the best-selling single of the entire 1990's, as i recall. mostly forgotten today.

Garcia was huge. I was really into music at the time but didn’t know boomerific shit like Grateful Dead. Was really confused and didn’t understand what the big deal was. All I knew was touch of grey.
