Just look at the state of Germany or France and ask if you want your country turned in to that. Or just look at the leaked Ukrainian casualty numbers and realize you're safer on the Russian side
If by defect you just mean surrender then that depends on personality. I would if i were magically made in to a Russian soldier, but I think anyone signing up for the Russian army knew there was a good chance they'd get in to some kind of industrial war |

I also doubt the conscripts will be trusted to be thrown into any meat grinder offensives. I would bet most of the call-ups get told to fill out the line while the actual competent and trained components of the Russian military are moved around for concentrated offensives. But maybe not, you could also get tossed into a depleted BTG. |
