Bought "Elden Ring" to test my video card, reviews said it was good. It sucks

I played for about an hour, and even though I was still weak and couldn't kill anything big, I could tell that the game was about leveling up your character so that you could kill these big demons and advance the plot. What's new and exciting about that? It's Ultima you can play with a game controller so what?
However the plot seems really dreary. There's also no humor at all in this game. The graphics are nice but I guess you can't disable vsync, so it feels like I'm playing it on an iphone. Thinking of returning it but all my other games are old and I could already run them maxed out on my old computer. |

I began playing as the astrologer thinking maybe there's some overpowered magic he has. But then instead of figuring out how that works I decided to just fight everything with this little sword he has. I have the horse now and I can level up, but I haven't bothered to do that. I've also made no effort to collect any runes or use any special items. Just fight everything as level 1 and see what enemies I can take down in just this base state. I plan to keep playing the game this way and I have no immediate plans to level up it or improve my character in any way.
Also, just by touching these bonfire things I met a girl who gave me a horse and took me to this castle. In one of the rooms there was a zombie chick who gave me a blessing in exchange for my becoming intimate with her. I suspect that was a mistake but I haven't googled it. |

If you were used to how the puzzles worked in those games, you knew you were going to acquire items throughout the game without any idea what they were good for, and that if you weren't careful you could lose them permanently and be unable to progress. You could also break things, like you might cut down a tree and then find out later there was a bird's nest with a delicate egg in it that you absolutely need to do something. You would be fucked and would have to reload an old save an play 2/3 of the game again. You would inevitably make typos, and in one game I was put on trial mid-game for typing "kang gown on hook" instead of "hang gown on hook" at a much earlier stage in the game.
