That's just a TBF conspiracy theory. And that would have been obvious to anyone who had actually bothered to read even (the highly inflammatory and inaccurate) article that was poasted.
What actually happened is that Biden passed a rule saying that employers are allowed to make it so that "socially responsible" ESG funds are the default option in 401k plans. The argument seems to be "Biden is allowing employers to steer their employees toward 'woke' funds that will yield lower returns. And that's stealing." There are two big problems with this argument: 1) Since the ESG index was created, it has actually outperformed the S&P. So the claim that ESG investing will result in lower returns is highly dubious. 2) More importantly, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO INVEST IN ESG FUNDS, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS LOG ON TO YOUR PROVIDER'S FUCKING WEB SITE AND CHANGE IT. Nobody is "forcing" anyone to invest in ESG funds. The argument in the article seems to be that most people are too dumb to do this. My response is that if you are too dumb to navigate to fidelity.com or download their app and see what you are investing in, then you are probably going to underperform the market no matter what. You're losing money because you're dumb, not because the government made an obscure rule that will affect very few people anyway. |

I've been places where the options for 401k investment are very limited. The idea of ERISA is to protect people from themselves and make it where you can't make a risky investment and can only elect investments seeking profit.
This is a significant change and gives mass cover to managers for this specific area. |
