Women are more independent. In prior generations, women needed to find a husband and bear children in order to ensure social status, food, etc. They were well motivated.

Now having a child is a choice, and everyone has much more complete information about how awful it is to raise children.

Now days a good portion of 30 year olds spend their time playing video games, dicking around on the internet, watching comic book movies, brunch with friends, treating dogs and cats like a child treats their dolls, etc. They're hobbies are going to restaurants and trying to Tweet witty things they saw about a television show.

The labor force participation rate for men declined from 87% in 1948 to 69% in 2012. Society is highly feminized with masculine behaviors intentionally banned — pranks (forbidden), getting involved in fights (forbidden), bullying antisocial elements (forbidden), and endless litigation ties the hands of educators further.

On the social front everyone is atomized and social networks are shattered. People have fewer close friendships. Parents and grown children live halfway across the country from each other and see each other a couple times a year.
