I had heard of Stanford because they play in the PAC-12, but I had no idea they were prestigious until I was like a junior in high school. (I eventually ended up attending Stanford.) And it wasn't like my family was prole. We were definitely UMC by the standards of the town I grew up in. Striving for an elite college simply wasn't on my radar or the radar of any of my high school classmates.
I think the Asian strivers on this bort greatly overestimate the name recognition of almost every college in the country. Only UMC/Asian strivers in wealthy school districts think about this stuff. I would say that for at least 95% of Americans, when they think of "prestigious colleges," they think of HYP and that's pretty much it. If they have heard of any non-HYP college, it is because of their football or basketball teams. |

Never seen any Princeton or MIT zoomer gear in my life and ofc not anything under those. Lots and lots of UNC, Michigan, UCLA, Cal Berkeley shit though.
