Take them too young and it's a fucking waste of money, the kids won't remember it and they would have 95% as much fun at a local waterpark or something.

Take them when they are too old and there's a lot of weird externalities that can kick in. They might decide that they are too old for Disney. They might buy in too hard and turn into some sort of stunted growth Disney obsessive.

My second trip was in 8th grade and we stayed at the Yacht Club. I *really* enjoyed it, but I enjoyed the lux experience a little too much. We were lower UMC, definitely not rich. I wanted to live there. Not really because I was all that obsessed with Disney, I just liked the resort life. I got a big head about things, developed a VERY entitled attitude. It was a very bad attitude for someone about to head into high school. Freshman year I got pretty depressed and racked up some pretty shitty grades.

The grounds are immaculate. The buildings are at least trying to be architecturally interesting and many times historically accurate.

The rides are a nice blend of somewhat thrilling and entertaining and informative and fun for kids. I don’t get sick on them like I do at non-stop coaster fests like Six Flags.

The restaurants are passable, at least comparable to a mid-tier cruise, and they at least have a variety of themes and locations.

The truth is, with young kids, if I go to a beach, I hate it because I am the entertainment (Let me bury you, Dad!). If I go to Disney, the park is the entertainment, and I can at least turn off a bit myself.

My kids don’t want to go on cruises. I take them on vacations to cities and historic sites, but for the most part, they don’t really care, and I am constantly dragging/pushing them to keep up. A lot of times they just want to swim in the pool or play at the playground. I wouldn’t even dream about taking them to hellholes like San Fran or NYC, or wasting the money on a trip to Europe at this point.

Disney is not perfect, but it can be a very decent vacation that serves a specific purpose for a specific stage in your life.

That said, I don’t let my kids watch any of the newest Disney movies due to the LGBTQ propaganda.

That said, I went to DL with my wife and kids last year as a part of a larger trip to SoCal where many of my friends from ug live and my one sister also lives. If you can drive, bring sandwiches/snacks, not stay at a hotel and just go for a day with no pressure to go to five different parks or whatever (ie it costs less than $500 for the day for a family of four) I do get the appeal. The whole point of the place is soft White Power and America Firstism. And 99+% of the guests don’t even realize that’s what it is. But the whole point is that America rules and is the best and wins bc of its absurdly positive self image and it’s slavish devotion to capitalism. The one ride that makes this point most plain is It’s a Small World, and the people watching on the ride is just hilarious. But walking into the park and seeing the recreations of small town USA and then walking a bit further and seeing rocketships in Tomorrowland and princess castles and the avalanche of Disney characters and assorted other elements of Disney IP (Marvel and Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, etc.), the point is clear. Going these days is even more funny bc most of the park patrons are not white, and you hear them all literally teaching their children to internalize that America is omnipotent and had boundless potential and a place where anything you want to imagine can become real. The kids are so blissed out and permagrinning the whole time. The subliminal messaging is just so obvious and palpable as an adult, and it clearly still works, even on the majority brown and asian park goers who plod through just like their white prole goy economic peers.

It was almost jarring to see a blonde, height/weight proportionate white UMC family walk by all decked out in their own Mickey sweatshirts and other Disney gear, but it was also hilarious to see how they seemed obviously more like they fit the picture. Like I swear to god the crowd would part when they glided past and they were carefree in a sea of fat whites, browns and Asians that were sweaty, stressed and tired. I remember noticing three separate families, all blonde, that were like this that day. That was when I got why my coworkers were so obsessed and so ready to empty their wallets to go. It’s like the purest form of UMC softly asserting its supremacy over poors. It’s effortless to the point that the fast pass stuff where you pay to skip the line is a problem bc it disrupts and tells on the illusion too much. But you could still see it in the faces of all the UMC parents that they were basking in feeling richer than everyone else.

The first time I went to Disney World was when I was 7 years old and is probably the perfect age.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Pirates of the Caribbean were super intense. Magical you might say.

I went to Disneyland Paris in the 90s when I was studying abroad. I was backpacking through Europe during Xmas break with 7 other Americans.

We spent five days in Paris and the only other American who wanted to go to Disneyland with me for one of those days was this chick from Alaska. She was a pretty cool chick and it was literally one of the best days of my life.

She was pretty hot and had a boyfriend, and I was fucking this other American chick that wasn't traveling with us, but there was some sexual tension and it felt like we were on a really good date.

The park was empty because it was pretty much brand new and the French hated it. We rode Space Mountain back-to-back without getting out of our seats because there was no line. It felt like we had the entire park to ourselves.

Everywhere you walk there is Disney theme music playing from somewhere. Speakers are everywhere. Its surreal.

A couple years later I went to Disney World in Orlando on Spring Break with my bro. It was a 180 spring break. We first hit up Daytona Beach and it was Bike Week. Its one of, if not the largest motorcycle gathering in the world. Harleys fucking everywhere. Then we hit Disney World for a day and then hit Tampa to visit his cousin.

I had a bowl and some weed and we would sneak hit it in the Disney World bathrooms. Disney World is so 180 when you are high. Its a Small World is mind-blowing.

Disney World has this little island or something where its a bunch of bars lining an imaginary street and ever bar is a different theme. The bartenders are all in costume. My bro and I bar hopped all night and then passed out in the car. Woke up the next morning and drove to Tampa.

But, yeah, I have a lot of good memories from Disney and I can't wait to take my kids so they can goy it up, too.
