I don't think we are at the point where companies are going to monitor coder clicks etc. But the real problem with software work is all the Agile overhead and meetings. Timelines for delivery are also getting compressed. So that does make it difficult to hold two jobs. |

edit: unfortunately it's also maybe the hardest thing to pick up on when applying to jobs. it's easy enough to gauge the relative expectations/difficulty of a gig, but obviously quite a bit harder to pry out a dev's true opinion of management during an interview. |
