Date: January 29th, 2023 12:47 AM Author: apoplectic new version hills, ny at the end of july in 2021. bright eyes has been one of my favorite bands since i was 14/15 and i had never seen them live. they were initially going to tour in 2020 but that was postponed due to covid. i had my dad use his amex points or whatever to get really good tickets for us. it was a bummer they had to delay the tour due to covid but i was still excited to see them in 2021.
on one of our last car drives together before bp left for a family vaca in july, i began playing a bright eyes song (pan & broom was the particular song) and he told me to change it because it made him feel sad (?) which was confusing to me but i didn't question it. he did something similar with american girl by tom petty. he was already planning to dump me at that point lol. he had also been more resistant to hanging out with me for a lot of that summer. like he acted the same for the most part but over the last few weeks he would delay coming over and it was obvious he didn't want to hang out as much.
when he was on vaca i was on the phone with him and i brought up booking a b&b or a hotel for the concert and he deflected which was odd. he also didn't seem to care as much about things i told him about my life. i sent him a selfie on snapchat and he replied "?" when he would usually reply like, "YOU ARE SO CUTE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!"
now i can't listen to that bright eyes song anymore
i shouldn't have dated him in the first place because we obviously weren't good for each other and neither of us was emotionally mature enough for a serious relationship. he took all the trolling on this board regarding our relationship to heart. we were both insecure and needed constant reassurance from each other. i felt like i was always one wrong breath away from offending him. i tried to prove i was the perfect girlfriend by coming less and less myself and eventually became a dependent, needy girl who wasn't the person he fell in love with in the first place. so naturally he fell out of love with me. it was a catch 22 because if i stayed the same independent person i was when we met, he would be constantly paranoid i'd be cheating on him or something.
i've already discussed my shortcomings on this board a million times.
