Ty friend. My interest is so very genuine. Have studied so much independently and the Lord is calling me to this but being treated like a child is very unappealing.

One thing I love about the Church is finding whites, turds, Mexicans, Asians etc. all under the same roof to worship. Maybe best to say I recently moved from home country but don’t want to begin journey on false pretenses either.

that's what I thought too, but I just talked with my wife about it the other day and she said it was just a weekend, kind of a Baptism->Reconciliation->First Communion->Confirmation wham bam Thank you mam.

The Church has shortened a few things, probably depends on the parish. For example pre-Cana (mandatory Catholic wedding counseling) used to be a full-on weekend sleepover retreat, but now it's just 4 hours on Saturday.

Ya cuz we were talking about her friend's fiance that wasn't converting. Anyways doing it for marriage makes the sponsor thing a lot easier bc the sponsor is ur future spouse. And ya my SIL told my wife it was a weekend. Take it with a grain of salt bc (1) neither my wife or I ever did RCIA, and (2) i barely listen to my wife's stories

That pesky Bible always frustrates Romanists. Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). The scriptures teach to pray directly to God through Jesus Christ (John 14:13-14, Ephesians 2:18).

https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/one-mediator-between-god-and-men

Listen to the audio version of this content

A surface reading of I Timothy 2:5 would seem to eliminate the idea of Christians “mediating” graces to one another: “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.” Protestants will argue, “If Jesus is our one mediator, then Christ alone mediates grace. In saying anyone else can, Catholics are usurping and thereby denying Christ’s singular role as mediator. That’s blasphemy!”

The Catholic Response:

Much to the surprise of many Protestants I have spoken to over the years, the Catholic Church actually acknowledges Christ to be our one and absolutely unique mediator who alone can reconcile us to the Father in a strict sense. In his classic, The Catholic Catechism, Fr. John Hardon explains:

… the Incarnation corresponds to mediation in the order of being, and the Redemption (remission of sin and conferral of grace) is mediation morally.

This kind of mediation is incommunicable. No one but the Savior unites in himself the divinity, which demands reconciliation, and the humanity, which needs to be reconciled.

Protestants generally agree with us on this point. However, Fr. Hardon goes on to say:

Nevertheless, lesser and subordinate mediators are not excluded. The question is what purpose they serve and in what sense do they mediate. They can help the cause of mediation in the only way that human beings (or creatures) can contribute to the work of salvation, namely, by their willing response to grace; either better disposing themselves or others for divine grace, or interceding with God to give his grace, or freely cooperating with grace when conferred.

The “lesser and subordinate mediators” is where the trouble starts. And yet, the context of I Timothy 2:5 demonstrates Fr. Hardon’s point. In the first two verses, St. Paul commands “supplications, prayers and intercessions to be made for all men…” Intercession is a synonym for mediation. Hebrews 7:24-25 refers to Jesus acting as our one mediator at the right hand of the Father and refers to him as intercessor:

But [Christ] holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Christ is our one mediator/intercessor, yet, St. Paul commands all Christians to be intercessors/mediators. Then notice the first word in verse five: “For there is one God and one mediator…” And then in verse seven he says, “For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle.” What is an apostle if not a mediator? The very definition of apostle, according to Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, is “a delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders.” That’s an essential part of what a mediator is. In short, St. Paul says we are all called to be mediators because Christ is the one mediator and for this reason he was called to be a mediator of God’s love and grace to the world!

Is this a contradiction? Not at all! The fact that Jesus is our one mediator does not preclude him from communicating this power by way of participation. The Bible also declares: “But you are not to be called Rabbi, for you have one teacher, (Gr. – didaskolos) and you are all brethren.” This text cannot be any clearer, yet James 3:1 and Ephesians 4:11 tell us we have many teachers (Gr. – didaskoloi) in the Church. The key is to understand that the many teachers and mediators in the body of Christ do not take away from Christ as the one teacher and mediator because they are, in a sense, Christ on this earth and they serve to establish his offices of teacher and mediator in him. As members of the body of Christ graced with a specific task by Christ they can say with St. Paul in Galatians 2:20, “It is not I, but Christ who [teaches] in me…”

And remember, we are not talking about necessity here. The Church is not claiming Christ couldn’t get the job done so he needed help. Of course not! He could do it all—and all by himself—if he wanted to. He could come down here right now and write this blog post much more effectively than I ever could. But he chooses not to do everything himself, strictly speaking. He delights in using his body to communicate his life and love to the world.

Lol at Catholics spinning their wheels on this shit.

Asking Mary or other saints for intercession can lead to idolatry or inappropriate veneration. Praying to Mary elevates her to a status equal to or higher than Christ, which detracts from the unique role and importance of Jesus as the Savior.

God’s*

The Father thinks His Son is sufficient. Why don’t you?

John 14:13-14: "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

John 15:16: "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you."

Ephesians 2:18: "For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit."

Hebrews 4:14-16: "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

1 Timothy 2:5: "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus."

I’ve quoted the Bible. You’re quoting something else.

There’s nothing that makes a gay catholic priest anymore qualified to interpret scripture than John Calvin or Herman Bavinck or someone who went to a confessional Protestant seminary. The Romanist church doesn’t have a monopoly on knowledge.

At the end of the day it's picking interpretations, and I'll side with the RCC.

I did RCIA a couple years ago. It's easier if you were previously baptized in a different Christian church. You would need to confess all sins since your baptism, that's the hard part. Then you can be confirmed, that's the easy part. You really have to prove you were baptized, you can't fib.

I was never baptized because my parents were dumb and neglectful. So I had go through a much more rigorous preparation, and meet with a nice old man who was my sponsor every 2 weeks. This was about 14 months. If you start RCIA right now it would be a year.

It takes a long time, but it's shorter than an eternity in hell.

EDIT: If you were never baptized, you are not liable for confessing your sins. Only those who were baptized have that obligation.

An SSPX baptism is not valid to the bigger Church, be careful with that.

A Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) parish, which is legit and not SSPX, would be a valid baptism and RCIA can be faster there. I had a friend finish in 4 months.

Post below I stated that a NO baptism is perfectly legit. I was baptized and raised in a NO setting, and it's always been legit. There's no homo or satanic shit. I glanced at the youtube videos concerning Novus Ordo. They are 100% flame IME. My Sunday mass consists of 3 readings from the good book, an insightful homily, and a bit of Holy Grace. I find it very traditional and pragmatic way or worshipping today. I'm just a regular lawfag.

There is for sure a Purity Fear Spiral on the internet regarding NO vs "Traditional Latin Mass." It is all form over function, totally surface-level. IMO and IME, Ppl just like to show how pious they are by going to a "legit" Latin mass. For true practioners, NO is perfectly good.

I repeat, I have never heard pro-LGBT or pro-Globohomo stuff in a NO mass. Unless you count prayers for Ukraine. But cmon. In short, NO is perfectly valid. Internet dweebs practicing "Le REAL Latin mass" shouldn't keep you from practicing the faith. They are modern Pharisees

Also never had a lib priest. Been to several different NO masses in midwest region for traveling, and they are all p cool guys. Younger priests at local university church are friendly but intensely pro-life. Old priests when i was growing up were very wise and didnt concern themselves with politics. In fact, I do not remember ONE NO priest saying something objectionably lib in his homily or otherwise. And I've been to a lot of NO masses, regular Sunday goer here. Going on record that the Internet is such flame on this, at least in midwest.

God gives a fuck about rcia? I kid. I told my wife the same thing before rcia and she looked at me with disgust. Then she busted on me for skipping out on confirmation in high school and I had to go to. God got me back.

📢 Even if you're not Catholic, you can walk in the line with everyone for communion. The right way to do this is to cross your arms over your chest. The priest will bless you instead of giving you Holy Cracker. Just FYI for scaredmos and introvertedmos that don't want to stand out but also don't want to illegally eat Holy Cracker

I actually didn't do RCIA. I contacted a local church (Novus Ordo) and was put in contact with a priest who agreed to meet with me, assign me readings, and discuss them with me over a period of a few months. Our first meeting was in the priory and he had me recite the Deliverance Prayer and clarify with me the whole process. I was also instructured to purchase and wear a gold crucifix necklace with the body of Christ on it. Also a wall crucifix. Also to obtain a statue or picture of the Blessed Virgin (not from a Santeria shop though). Later on I bought a rosary and was taught how to pray it. The readings discussions were about the Mass and also the Crucifixion - a lot of 1950s stuff, when American Catholicism was at its peak. One of them was actually a comic book.

Then came conditional re-baptism because I couldn't actually prove I was baptized. My mom didn't remember in which church it was done when I was a baby. Mine was done mostly in Latin and the witness was a woman who I think was a low-key sedevacantist. I had to read various declarations and list any un-Catholic things I had belief systems in the past.

After that was first confession. Then first communion. Then confirmation. I was confirmed by an old pre-1968 bishop. For a time I was also wearing the brown scapular.

I kept up the state of grace off and on for about two years. I made confession the last time in 2015 and have been out of the state of grace since that year.

Catholicism in the northeast is declining. I was in a major archdiocese and they had no RCIA. They were closing parishes. The parochial schools were shutting down, too. I went to the SSPX mass in NYC at the old Soldiers and Sailors Hotel on Lexington and the Swiss protest there complained about their finances.

Yes.

It's powerful. No worry or anxiety. I asked my priest in the confessional how I can avoid sins of the flesh and he told me, since I'm male, I'll have to worry about this up until hours after I'm dead.

Thanks. I think of it as a behavior, and behavior can be stopped.
