Went to pray at the mosque at 5:50am on Wednesday and did a day of Ramadan fasting with Paralegal Mohamed. Just wanted to have the 180 experience of being Muslim for a day.

Woke up around 5am. I don't lift on Wednesdays. I had 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter, a cup of hot green tea, and a big glass of water (with Metamucil of course!).

Then I read the news for 15 minutes and was out the door by 5:40 am. The Mosque was in Canoga Park (Islamic Society of West Valley), so it was only 3 minutes away (I'm living in one of my rental houses in Canoga Park because my main house is getting a full reno).

When I got there, there were only a few cars, and then Mo parked next to me a minute later. We went inside and he took me to the bathroom to wash ourselves. I washed my hands, then up to my elbows, then I put water in my mouth and up my nose. After that I put some water in my ears, and then washed my feet. Mo told me to get in between my toes too. He told me if I farted I would have to do it again (not flame).

After that we went to the main prayer room. There were about 15 people there and the Imam (who was from Egypt). The prayer lasted for about 15 minutes. It was very peaceful and definitely a relaxing way to start the day. Even though I'm Jewish, I felt safe and no one threatened me with violence (in fact one of the guys asked me point blank, and with sincere curiosity, if I spoke Hebrew).

Next, the Imam gave us a short lesson about Ramadan. He explained that any type of ejaculation during the fasting (even sex with your wife) was Haram. He gave his talk in Arabic, but there was a translator there.

I then hung out with some of the guys. Most of them were in their 20s and early 30s, but a few were in their 50s. It turned out one of the guys had a son at the same Catholic school that my son went to. I asked him what grade his son was in, and he said he had no idea, but that his wife handled that stuff (not flame).

After this I fasted for the entire day. No water, no gum (which I didn't know), and no food. I broke the fast later that night at 8pm at Flemings with one of my Israeli chiropractors and his wife. I got a dry aged Ribeye steak, brussels sprouts with bacon (the chiro did not partake), and a tuna tower thing.

My take home was if I had to pick a religion (I don't believe in god), it would probably be Islam. Those dudes all cared about family, no divorce, had solid wives who took care of them/the kids, and they all seemed like a solid community.

Was a 180 Wednesday.

"Compounds with -ful can either have the -s on the first part or on the end. Putting the -s on the first part can sound more formal but putting it on the end is perfectly fine even in formal writing. So spoonful can be spoonsful (slightly more formal sounding) or spoonfuls (more common). The same is true for bucketful, carful, truckful, mouthful, and handful."

I graduated in the top 10% of my suburban high school and squandered it all by starting college at some faggy LAC instead of the state flagship!

I always wonder if the outcome would have been different if I had had the foresight to try and fit in at 17. I didn’t though. I had few friends in high school, and lots of negative experiences, and I didn’t want for college to be a continuation of that.

Without going into too much detail, when I was around 10 or so, a lot of things started happening at home that really derailed my childhood. There was a lot of violence and some other issues.

Around age 10-11, I started acting out a bit. This lasted for about a year or so, and then I went hard the other direction. I really "leaned" into my autistic tendencies and became as super-study as you can be. I went from being a middling, A&B student who didn't care, to literally just reading text books for fun. In sixth grade, for example, I did all of the grammar lessons in our little grammar book and studied whatever grammar problems I could find. Note--this would be much easier with the internet.

My grades instantly improved. We would get number grades back then. I'd say I went from having a median grade of about an 85 to a median grade of about a 98. I would cry if I got less than a 95 on a test. I really dove head in.

In middle school I tried to sign up for all of the advanced classes that I could. I studied and studied and studied. I did extra math problems. And, when I was on the bus or whatever trying to read some short story or working on some kind of linear equation or whatever, I would get bullied mercilessly.

I was bullied so much by 8th grade that they would assign you to a lunchtime (and because it was still middle school you kind of had to go). I had nobody to sit with. Eventually, I just started going to the library. But that was weird because the librarian would always ask me if I had a pass to be in the library and of course I did not. Anyway, there was a READ poster in there with a picture of LeVar Burton kind of in the corner. I'd go over there and kind of sit on the floor and do my homework or whatever sort of out of sight where nobody could see me.

High school was actually much better for me, and I did have friends and a clique of sorts, but I never fully recovered from the social death of middle school and it always plagued me in my day-to-day interactions with other students.

I super-strived through high school (national ap scholar, merit society ?, german club president, debate club, etc. ). In college, I don't know. I had to transfer to another school and then I lost a bunch of credits so I graduated in 3 years instead of 2.5. Then I moved across the country. Then came law school. Then being an associate. And now here I am, no worse for the wear.

Once, in 8th grade, a bunch of boys surrounded me in the locker room (after I was fully dressed). Roughed me up, picked me up and tossed me into the piss trough and then tried to piss on me. I had to go to geometry class smelling of urine and with a swollen lip.

I feel like most kids who had very good high school performance burned out way too quickly as an adult. I didn't care about grades or school performance growing up and I think it allowed me to enjoy my childhood without anxiety. I had a significant amount of friends when I was in high school but many of them were also from outside of school since I didn't go to school a lot of the time. A lot of my friends were several years older than me which is probably why I fucked around with girls pretty early, and didn't care as much about school. My high school years were some of the best in my life.

This is probably true. I was maladjusted and had considerable stress and anxiety as a young person. I feel like that does wear a person down and then they get into middle age and they've been through so much already and they tend to look back and see where it got them and it's very disappointing, and perhaps something inside them breaks.

This is one of the reasons why family is so important. Your family is there for you. They help lift you up when you are feeling blue. They are a reason to get up each morning and continue to strive. Their happiness means more to you than anything else in this earthly realm.

I don't know about "most". But this may also be dependent on the type of HS. Like there are high schools were a middle of the pack student would have been a top student at my HS where 1/450 students in my class got into an ivy league school, and it was Cornell.

All of the people who died prematurely from my graduating class were firmly in the scumbag clique.

Meanwhile all of the top of the class people are doctors, engineers or lawyers. The type of smartmos who came from working class catholic families and commuted to Rutgers on a full scholarship rather than pay out of pocket for a private school. This may be different for people who came from wealthy parents and felt crushing pressure from a young age to excel and succeed academically.

I didn't say the people at the top of high school classes are successful in a traditional sense. They are just burned out and unhappy and very few of them break out of upper middle class income/net worth. Most people I know who are truly happy and have crushed it at life are early fuck ups who got their shit together as adults and have always been social/enjoyed life.

Every alpha man has dozens or hundreds of people that he takes care of and supports. That is one of the qualities of a strong male. It feels 180 that I can be a daddy and provider for so many. Since only .1% of men really fall in that category it can be difficult for many to understand. Email me and I'd be happy to chat with you more about it over a beer (or prayer at the mosque if you prefer!).

islam and judaism are very similar, so not too surprised. surprising would be if you found Christ and renounced worship of Mammon/money, which is your true God (an idol, but still your God which you worship), but you'll never do that. instead you'll be surrounded by sycophantic mud creatures who secretly both hate you for being jewish and are jealous of your wealth

Brother, this morning after getting my whole family ready for school and off, I did a bunch of push-ups. 5 sets in about 15 minutes.

Set 1 - 10

Set 2 - 12

Set 3 - 8

Set 4 - 8

Set 5 - 12

I was thinking about just pushing through and conquering my goals with each one. Just take those little steps forward that bring the end just a little bit closer and more into focus.

I also haven’t eaten for over 108 hours. I feel like more and more is coming into focus.

In addition to physical and other stuff what should I be doing to improve upon those? Is there a place in this world for the socially clueless and the selling inept?

My honest opinion is that you are a very nice and likeable guy. But you need to increase your energy a bit. Ask more questions, seem more excited about talking to the people you are talking to. Try and throw some humor in or even just self deprecating jokes. You seem like you have a genuine interest in talking to people but you also seem like you are closer to a natural introvert than a natural extrovert. You have a trustworthy face, which helps a lot. For example, if I was a guest at my sushi dinner I would have walked up to more people to just say hi and introduce myself.

Very true. I tried talking to Nutella, Kenny, and Box, but as with the others I was more shy. Also, I didn’t want to strand my wife too much.

Didn’t know what to talk to Nutella about besides going to the grocer anyways.

President Trump’s staggering record of uncharged crimes

by Conor Shaw

As of November 2022, Donald Trump has been credibly accused of committing at least 56 criminal offenses since he launched his campaign for president in 2015. That total only reflects allegations relating to his time in or running for office and omits, for instance, Trump’s criminal exposure for fraudulent business dealings.

Click here to jump straight to the table

The eight offenses we have added since we published the first version of this table in March 2022 include three criminal offenses relating to the investigation of election fraud and related crimes in Fulton County, Georgia; one offense relating to potential wire fraud stemming from fraudulent representations made to solicit PAC contributions after the 2020 election; one perjury offense relating to Trump’s legal efforts to overturn the 2020 election; and three offenses relating to Trump’s unlawful possession of government records at Mar-a-Lago after leaving office. The updated tracker likely understates Trump’s legal exposure because the high volume of sensitive records discovered at Mar-A-Lago suggests that he could be indicted for multiple counts of willfully retaining without authorization government records containing national defense information, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 793(e)), even though it is only listed once on CREW’s tracker.

Federal and state prosecutors are at an important crossroads with respect to accountability for the former president. On the one hand, the deadline has already passed or will soon pass for charges relating to several extremely serious offenses. That includes offenses relating to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign as well as his obstruction of the FBI’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election and the subsequent special counsel investigation. The investigation of both matters was terminated by the Department of Justice at the direction of former Attorney General Bill Barr. While there is substantial evidence that Trump committed several felonies, he is unlikely to face consequences for that conduct.

“Choosing not to pursue accountability for fear of political criticism or consequences is itself a deeply political act. ”

On the other hand, Trump is squarely in the crosshairs of at least three grand jury investigations that have been very active over the last half year: the Fulton County, Georgia investigation of election fraud and related offenses; a federal grand jury investigation of the January 6 insurrection and events leading up to it; and a federal grand jury investigation of Trump’s unlawful possession of government records since leaving office and related offenses. These investigations suggest that Trump’s long run of avoiding accountability may soon be over.

While adherence to the rule of law requires that prosecutors pursue criminal indictments only where the facts, law, and principles of prosecution support such action, it is also critical that no individual be insulated from accountability simply because they are a national political figure, a former president, or a candidate for public office. Choosing not to pursue accountability for fear of political criticism or consequences is itself a deeply political act.

Failing to deter Donald Trump from engaging in further criminal misconduct would have profoundly damaging consequences for our democracy. Criminal law is designed to punish individuals for criminal offenses to discourage these individuals and others like them from engaging in the same conduct in the future. If President Trump avoids criminal prosecution for attempting to retain power despite being voted out of office or for compromising some of the country’s most sensitive national security secrets, the message to him and others who hold power will be clear: you can commit crimes that threaten the future of our democracy with impunity.

The rule of law is not self-enforcing. The individuals who serve in the Department of Justice and in prosecutors’ offices across the country are charged with upholding it. They must pursue criminal charges against President Trump if the facts, law, and principles of prosecution support doing so.

Koran is by far the least interesting and intellectual book of faith.

I agree though Muslims are much better than Christians.
