I kinda think they did a good job not editorializing too much. Also, Mencken is supposed to be a quasi Nazi fringe figure on the right, most normal people do think that’s kinda bad.
We never find out who was really responsible for the fire . And even the neutral election nerd (Darwin) says that those votes are prob gone for good as a legal matter. Mencken was not (on camera at least) pushing for ATN to support claims of voter fraud, etc. people are comparing to 2016 or 2020 but it was really more like what actually happened in 2000

i think that might be what the preview and roman saying "don't i remind you of my dad, a little bit?" with all three siblings maneuvering and racked by indecision, he's the only what that acted decisively and wound up outmaneuvering all of them. |

Feels like its going to be really abrupt, inconclusive and unsatisfying, GOT style.
How could they possible wrap up the big storylines in a 24 hour period? Shiv gets early morning abortion, then steals the mic from Roman at the funeral and screeches: "Mencken cut a deal for ATN calling it!", then the DOJ/FCC burst into the church and arrest Tom and Roman, while the lameduck GOP potus personally arrests his GOP successor, and an emergency board meeting is called to crown Gerri CEO of Waystar, whose pending sale to GoJo just never makes it into the timeline |

Henry, like Berryman, is a poet and teaches poetry to college students, is a terrible alcoholic, with a suicide father, fucks around, maybe kills himself, and is morbidly lonely.
They are great poetry, but dense, and oppressively bleak.
Kind of fits the tone of Succession, but Idk if theres something deeper |

look at at&t acquiring time warner. this is really similar to the events of the show and probably inspired this. the deal was announced in october 2016. trump wasn't a fan of the deal and unexpectedly won the election in november. shareholders didn't approve until february 2017. deal didn't close until 2018.
a president-elect has a lot of sway of regulators. people would not be happy if an administration forced through something that the new president is against. on top of that, the roys could absolutely stall the deal for a mere two months anyway with the subscriber numbers shit (probably inspired by musk and twitter -- how long did that take to resolve?). |
