I flew into Kolkata then from there u can either take a 8-9h train to a town called Siliguri or fly there in 1h. I just flew. Gorgeous MODI has introduced a Vande Bharat train on this route that takes only 7.5h but it leaves at 6am and you need to book a couple weeks in advance to ensure u get a tic From Siliguri u can take a shared jeep that they pack with turds or take a public govt bus. I took the "AC deluxe" bus and it was okay.
XO MODI has amazingly made the 4.5h journey POTHOLE free though the highway is just two lanes and its CRAZY how trucks pass each other
XO MODI has also opened the first airport in Sikkim, its just 45m from Gangtok the capital of Sikkim however only one airline flies there, from Delhi and they charge rapist 200usd plus. Hopefully they will have more flights in the future
XO MODI is also ensuring that they FINALLY finish the first railway line to Sikkim. Its the last state that doesnt have rail. This shld be done by end of year inshallah. Then u can take train from Kolkata all the way to Sikkim though it will be another 1h to gangtok by taxi until they extend the train further |
