In a couple of years you're going to be longing for the days where PS5 was "only" ahead by a few 1,000,000K units. Xbox, particularly Series S, was much more available than PS5 on store shelves in 2020-2022. Furthermore, PlayStation gamers are disproportionately WFH types and thus were more inclined to spend time buying/playing Consoles during the "pandemic."
Scumbags have also just about ran through their stimulus and thus don't have cash to burn like during the pandemic. |

Xbox 360 was weaker than PS3 but Scumgineer westerners couldn't tap into it Original Xbox was powerful af, granted. There were lots of ports from original Xbox to PS3 that skipped PS2 iirc. |

Series X versions of shared games are generally at least a bit better.

That's about a 10% difference.
But some games are better optimized for PS5.

Keep in mind that their business model is different because they're really all about selling GamePass membership. I suspect they're doing really well there.

But yes, next gen graphics are getting less and less compelling and Nintendo has a lot of intellectual Jap games going for it. People aren't going to go for Nintendo's BS next gen unless they make The Same Console/The Same Games over and over again. If they try to be creative or do something Fun, they're fucked imo. |

Nintendo wins every single console generation. That's because while only some adults game pretty much all kids game and little kids love Nintendo. Also some casual adult gamers also love the switch.

360 western multiplatform games looked better, but Uncharted 2 or MGS4 look better than anything on 360 afaik.
Nintendo Lost almost every gen except the current one. Wii was an outlier and was basically one gen back (along with the Switch really). They Lost with the N64, Gamecube, and Wii U badly. Sega won in the U.S. with the Genesis (tied the SNES and if you include 32X and Sega CD sales, they Won). |

They're charging like $120 year for a shitload of games for which they inevitably have to pay quite a bit to the publishers (it's not like Nintendo where the NES/SNES games they offer bundled with online service are mostly first party). Sony is making you pay $80/year for JACK SHIT except for 3 shovelware games per month + the privilege of playing online. Sony's "business model" of winning the gen combined with whatever they can scalp from their fans is a much better "business" than what MSFT is doing. The economics of gamepass reek of desperation on MSFT's part imo. Good for the fans (of Forza/Project Gotham/Flight Sim/Saints Row or whatever), but bad for Business. |

MS own a bunch of the publishers of those games and is working on acquiring more. But this is the same analysis any streaming service does. Nevertheless, how much is Netflix worth? Hulu? Seems like the business model works. |

PS5 gives you 3 TERRIBLE games for $80/year. MSFT lists 1,000k games for $120/year. Their costs are like 1000kx higher imo.
Buying publishers is also a n00b move imo. they pay out the ass for them in such a way where it takes like 20 years to break even. But in "2 years, 3 months" like 60% of their Engineers will be gone. Rare was Ruined the second MSFT bought them. |

That's only a billion in revenue every year. Even with a 100% tie rate, they couldn't cover even the bare costs of the first party games they put on gamepass (Halo Infinite was several hundred million by itself). Then consider what they have to pay all of the third parties with games on gamepass...there is no way that the whole endeavor is not hemorrhaging money. It is still being priced as a loss leader and would need to double or triple in price to become financially viable (but even then it wouldn't due to adverse selection--the only people who would pay $30 for a sub are those core gamers who would spend more than $30 without it).
