"He's hard to work with" they all said. Personality issues. Didn't gel with the other musicians in the band.

He did. He did a couple solo albums but his supergroup with Carmine Appice (definitely not gay) flopped, sold the rights to their only "hit" song to Stevie Wonder. Never moved to France. People said he was easy to find in London up until the end, hung out at the same bar every night. Compare to Page.

A lot of shit sucked but still got heavy promotion, like The Who. Pete Townshend was supposed to be a "good" guitarist but he actually sucked ass, and years later he was arrested for child porn.

The amount of music that got heavy promotion and was actually good is actually like 2% of what got promoted. Most music on the radio back then was still total shit.

Have you ever read the lyrics to the first track on Cream's first album?

----------

Feel when I dance with you

We move like the sea

You, you're all I want to know

I feel free

I feel free

I feel free

I can walk down the street, there's no one there

Though the pavements are one huge crowd

I can drive down the road, my eyes don't see

Though my mind wants to cry out loud

I, I, I, I feel free

I feel free

I feel free

I can walk down the street, there's no one there

Though the pavements are one huge crowd

I can drive down the road, my eyes don't see

Though my mind wants to cry out loud

Though my mind wants to cry out loud

Dance floor is like the sea

Ceiling is the sky

You're the sun and as you shine on me

I feel free

I feel free

I feel free

He was a horrible songwriter who wrote 0, not one, iconic riff or track. He was really famous for A) being in the right place at the right time in music history, and B) having achieved some sort of technical mastery of wiggling his fingers in unique ways. Both A and B being true did not on any level enable him to make a single hit record that gelled with the general public. No amount of magazine articles about him being brilliant or lip service from others legends could make any of his tracks worthwhile. He's garbage.

His most viewed clips on all of YouTube feature him jamming with Tal Wilkenfeld with her nipples poking out. That was his overall career highlight.

He was so terrible he had to cover a terrible song and his only contribution to the track was making weird noises through a wah pedal? It's funny in the comments people said he was often imitated but never duplicated. That's actually not true. No one ever imitated this lmao. Imagine David Gilmour or James Hetfield or anyone who got famous sitting around thinking I'm going to imitate Jeff Beck. Lmfao! And even other guys who made weird sounds their shtick did it way better. If you claim to like Jeff Beck you're just a lemming who read too many Rolling Stone articles.

He was hired labor, the same as Clapton. Remember how they used to stick Clapton in these shitgroups that never went anywhere? I'm supposed to get pumped whenever Layla comes on the air?

The same record label execs who recycled Clapton through all these "supergroups" could have offered Jeff Beck a jerb at any time, but instead Beck was forced to form his own band. Of course it sucked because all the good English drummers were taken by then, and he had to work with this clod from Jersey.

The movie was financed with money made from the Monkees, and features a cameo of record producer Phil Spector in the opening scenes, but neither provided any music. The "groundbreaking" soundtrack featured popular rock artists including the Band, the Byrds, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Steppenwolf.[48] Editor and negative cutter Donn Cambern used various music from his own record collection to make watching up to 80 hours of bike footage more interesting during editing.[17] Most of Cambern's music was used, with licensing costs of $1 million, triple the film's budget.[17] The film's extensive use of pop and rock music for the soundtrack was similar to what had recently been used for 1967's The Graduate, including songs been used more than once, or being adapted for the movie.

CR

I'm not really that into rock music, and I knew he was and have probably looked him up on Youtube a couple of times. I never was like "wow - got to hear more of this."

Literally millions of other people obviously had the same experience.

The music industry is so inherently unfair its hard for me to think there's some injustice with a guy who has 6 Grammys and is on thousands of lists about the best guitarists. Save your tears for the thousands of guitarists who are as good or better than him who know one has ever heard of.

The thing to me that is insane about music is just how fickle it is.

Elton John has 50 huge hits in teh first 10 years of his career, and like 2 the next 40 years.

Last year you have NSYNC, one of the biggest radio acts ever, reuniting after 20 years to put out a song that basically is as good as anything they did at their peak - and the song performs worse than mumble rap a TikToker recorded in their bathroom.

No it's not. Hendrix was just used up by he time he got famous. He got famous by going to Europe and getting famous over there for a while before he was repackaged and sold to Americans. By the time he was drawing huge audiences he was already burned out and pumped full of drugs. When he was doing shit like setting his guitar on fire he was legit pissed off, he wasn't trying to be musical at that point in the show.

His studio albums were also dogshit relatively speaking. He did a million recordings that sounded better but they weren't the ones that went on the album that got promoted. The worst recording of Manic Depression I've heard is the studio version.
