you'd have over $3 million if you just put your entire million in an s&p fund and left it alone while you continued working part time to avoid having to draw down any of your principal.
perennially at $1 million is not good. because you are living off the money, it will never materially grow, and eventually (unless ur planning to drink yourself to death in the next 10 years), $1 million won't be that much money. $3 million would have been a pretty solid number.
