all of our movies are now shit. something has to be done. losers keep promoting comic book movies and impotent comedy.

"Don't Look Up" looks like shit pure shit. Triangle is just ok. I *do* like Paolo Sorrentino.

They are the same quality movie. Your preconceived bias prevented you from appreciating this. Indeed the acting in DLU is significantly better than Triangle and others you listed. Woody Harrelson phoned his performance in, for example

It's possible that the trailer you saw is not entirely representative

I watched another trailer of "DLU" and all I see is some pastiche of 30 Rock, Gilmore Girls, Parks & Rec, and Veep.

I can't do it, bruv. I won't do it, bruv.

btw our culture is fucked if there's basically no good movies in the past 5 years

Agreed but Europeans aren't killing it either. The best indie/auteur films (ie not marketed by a huge studio to the lowest common denominator) in the last 5-10 years are probably all Asian tbh

Top gun was fun, like setting off some fireworks, but meaningless. Same could be said for ford vs Ferrari I guess but at least that had coherent plot.

We are at least starting to see blockbusters of a higher artistic quality that are more interesting than capeshit. Dune, Top Gun, and Oppenheimer were all strong. Even Barbie is a mess, but it was at least a visually inventive and interesting mess.

I would really like to see more movies like The Holdovers--midbudget dramas or comedies that are well made and have a good cast and script but aren't super flashy, but also aren't the sorts of dour Oscarbait biopics. The Holdovers did pretty well at the box office on a modest budget, so maybe we can get more stuff like that.

The first half was great; then once the demon stuff started in earnest, it began to lose me (although the stuff with the James Randi type's response was strong). The ending was a mess--it really seemed like they wanted to go three or four different ways with the ending and tried to go for all of them and it fell apart.
