Compare him to his modern analogues. You have someone like Adam Cole who moves around the ring similarly and can handle a mic but is just such a tiny little twink that you just laugh ever time you see him. Or AJ Styles, who is a little bit better built, but can't cut a promo to save his life.
HBK had the ring psychology, he had the athleticism, he had the mic skills to carry a main event program, and he was just barely built enough to be believable...not physically imposing, but it wasn't causing cognitive dissonance to see him in there with the bigger guys either. There are not many guys like that who were well above average in just about every category with no major weaknesses. |
