Gotta love that corporate welfare to Big Ag!

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Our farmers are GREAT, but because of their GREATNESS, they are always put on the Front Line with our adversaries, such as China, whenever there is a Trade negotiation or, in this case, a Trade War. The same thing happened in my First Term. China was brutal to our Farmers, I these Patriots to just hold on, and a great trade deal was made. I rewarded our farmers with a payment of $28 Billion Dollars, all through the China deal. It was a great transaction for the USA, until Crooked Joe Biden came in and didn’t enforce it. China largely reneged on the deal (although they behaved during the Trump Administration), only buying a portion of what they agreed to buy. They had ZERO respect for the Crooked Biden Administration, and who can blame them for that? Interestingly, they just reneged on the big Boeing deal, saying that they will “not take possession” of fully committed to aircraft. The USA will PROTECT OUR FARMERS!!!

Generous, spur-of-the-moment "entitlements" like this create a permanent feedlot for lawyers who understand administrative law, because the government always fucks up the allocation of funds. Couple this with Pam Bondi as AG.

that's what they always tell you in Econ 100: you optimize the trade policies and use distribution to help out the domestic losers.

that's what Ross Perot said that the US wouldn't do as it shifted to helping China, joining WTO, entering NAFTA, etc.

that's why Gore, Clinton, and Bush promised they'd do -- but did not do -- when they sold out the US working class for the benefit of GC.

Wtf no. In econ 101 they teach you that it would be better to remove all trade barriers and tax the economic surplus from removing them to redistribute to the losers (workers, not corporations like Trump is doing). You have it ass backwards. This was literally one of the first lessons in my econ 101 class freshman year and it blew my mind at the time.

Did you even take econ 101?

https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2025/4/10/economic-effects-of-president-trumps-tariffs

Tariffs are estimated to raise about the same amount of revenue as increasing the corporate income tax from 21 to 36 percent, in the absence of these recent tariffs. While raising the corporate tax rate is generally seen as highly economically distorting, tariffs would reduce GDP and wages by more than twice as much. All households, regardless of age or income, would be worse off. The estimated economic declines are likely lower bounds, with actual declines potentially even larger.

Econ (both theory and empirical work) suggests the optimal trade policy is zero tariff.

Trump is doing the opposite. Raising the tarriff to the highest levels in a century and then redistributing, but the pie got smaller.

you are reading "have lots of high tariffs" into my poast. i said you optimize your trade policy. i realize that in a perfect model many economists favor zero tariffs. in the real world most realize that a perfect model doesn't work. so wherever you come out, you distribute to the domestic losers.

Corporate welfare that creates jobs is OK. This program will be abused by Jewish political donors opening new farms.
