Woods is thoroughly intellectually pedestrian, and the economic analysis he gives (or parrots) there is highly superficial. The deindustrialization he cites and tritely attributes to Thatcher just so happens to coincide with the deindustrialization of the entire first world. He correctly identifies this as a severe problem -- roughly tying his analysis with anything a child could have produced given even a passing acquaintance with the modern economy.
The lowered taxation of multinational corporations is far from an intrinsic bad; rather, the issue is that isn't tied to any incentives to maintain physical productivity within the UK. Furthermore, regulatory burden remains extreme at the entry level of all businesses. It is merely megacorps which have the means to navigate it in a cost-effective manner; this is even more true in the UK's labyrinthine legal system than in the US.
The ownership of property in a country by foreign citizens is -- and virtually always has been -- insane and in 10-20 years we will see laws prohibiting it due to real estate shortage. Canada is largely already there.
He's right about the UK's insane crime problem and absurd thoughtcrime policing, but this is far from groundbreaking.
Britain has been done for years now.
