And these are weird, weird drugs they're giving these people, still in the "we can describe vaguely how it works, but we don't know why it actually works or why efficacy is so variable" frame of study In the 80s and 90s there was a major shift towards aggressive promotion of pharmacological solutions for a variety of medical issues up and down the profession and simultaneously in the world of psychology there was another round of behaviorism fellation and freud-dragging so the resurgence of the psychotherapeutic approach that took place in the more jewish parts of the east coast didn't spread nationwide |

For a prole just having a professional acknowledge that "We understand your issue to some extent" puts them back into the arms of society and depending on how the diagnosis is presented can produce placebo type improvement just by increasing confidence that whatever the issue may be might be rectified, as many of the issues people come in for are often either comparatively mild or temporary and not intractable things that need to be given mind warping 2nd gen anti psychotics or ssri cocktails Most of the issues lie in the treatment plans mainly and this can often not even be the fault of the professional as what we call "alternative" treatments (this is a fascist thing in and of itself) are not covered by insurance despite obvious efficacy and a lack of contraindications |

It sounds like a joke until you are having two full-blown, dizzy, chest-pounding, throat-closing, can’t breath, panic attacks almost every day. I tried all kinds of non medical shit—therapy, meditation, increased exercise, diet, sleep, etc etc while being extremely hesitant to take meds. Eventually gave in and got on an SSRI and a few weeks later, I was down to very infrequent attacks easily suppressed with a quick Xanax. Undeniable it was the psych meds that were what worked.
