Date: November 5th, 2026 1:14 AM Author: harry potter and the nihilists of azkaban might try this i dunno WoW is a major major investment if you're competitive about end game pve or pvp although i think the pvp standards are much looser from back when i played last (wotlk) i heard NuBlizz's writing team is not good (WoW memes and screeds i've come across from recent years are very insistent and heated on the points that 1. some major writer has a very weird and obvious foot fetish that you're forced to sit through in cutscenes and 2. they're mangling the world-lore and not for any real benefit to the overarching story of the World of... Warcraft) and very political which can be fine but in their case it's without any subtlety or artistic deftness which is not fine |

BC had some incredible endgame content |

Based on Blizzard's statements, I expect WoW: Forever raids to be substantially easier than pre-nerf M'uru—and that appears to be the intended philosophy for the game's entire lifespan, not merely its opening tiers.
Blizzard has been unusually explicit about this.
1. They don't want progression walls like M'uru
In a September interview, lead game designer Tim Jones explained that Forever's raid difficulty should come primarily from preparation, assembling a group, and understanding encounters.
He specifically said:
"There's no expectation that you're putting in hundreds of reps or even tens of reps on certain raid bosses."
That's a remarkably strong statement. It suggests they aren't interested in designing encounters that routinely require dozens of wipes before a competent guild can defeat them.
Lead encounter designer Michael Nuthals reinforced this philosophy during Blizzard's End of Beta podcast.
He described their target as beer-and-pretzels raiding: bosses should require coordination and preparation, but shouldn't overwhelm players with elaborate mechanics. They also favor mechanics that punish individual mistakes rather than automatically wiping the entire raid.

Date: November 5th, 2026 11:50 AM Author: harry potter and the nihilists of azkaban this may actually end up being too easy as i'd hope at least that median player familiarity with the fundaments of the game systems was higher than it was years ago. wow pve difficulty really is just in herding brain damaged lemmings into or out of various shiny spots on the floor with the help of an entire raytheon FutureSoldier™️ suite of performance enhancing hud addons. we had a guy who was clinically nearly blind in our guild. even funnier, he was a GO and a RL still bewildering remembering people dying to stuff like gruul's movement dance or the water elemental in serpentshrine cavern but my old guild was also just a bunch of rowdy drunks and 16 year olds chain eating hot pockets on mic mid-raid i don't really like that they cater to casuals with end game content. this was going on even in wotlk era. i recall running a pug naxx 20 (?) shortly after they opened the partyfinder for raids and spending the next 3 hours doing that white guy blinking .gif in between shots of stoli. only killed ONE (1) boss during that, the abom thing, and experienced no fewer than 6 wipes including two to dungeon trash |

And that's also what I loved about TBC raiding--the collective personal skill progression that reminds me of Genichiro in sekiro feeling impossible at first but really preparing you for the much harder later bosses like Ishin by gating your mechanic fundamentals to an acceptable level. Archimonde does this and by the time you're fighting Brutallus anyone getting the flame debuff has already been accustomed to personal responsibility for wipes by Archi.
I fear they are trying to snuff out GDKP by just removing the difficulty requirements that incentivize it. |

Old Blizz were geniuses with this stuff ime Years ago there was a big discussion, like 300+ pages, on the forums about the gdkp model being a vector for social abuse (it was, but this was very much a thing solved by individuals taking the "join a different guild then" advice) so perhaps that's what's going on in the developer teams' minds. Current WoW (probably MoP, that's when gms started cleaning this stuff up) is a hugbox but older WoW was very much an Eve bonus room wild west of player experiences |

Date: November 5th, 2026 12:31 PM Author: harry potter and the nihilists of azkaban It wasn't difficult compared to stuff like AQ40 but at the time there weren't as many 3rd party resources available for understanding e.g. raid mechanics or floor layouts so a run would often live or die on the RL's ability to explain the fights effectively and keep everyone on the same page I remember reading about that same hydross fight's mechanics on some really shitty russian or swedish translated site and thinking "What the fuck is this guy talking about" "Go to room вершина and hold 2 minute" Ok thanks boss I'll be at the blyatschina how much borscht should I pack for those two minutes |
