Whiscash faces some stiff competition for the role of bulky Water-type in the NU metagame. Its main competition, Wailord, sports similar defensive capabilities (in fact, they shake out to be almost identical) as well as higher offensive stats, crucial resistances to Water and Ice, and access to two coveted moves in Roar and Self-Destruct. Whiscash, on the other hand, has what is possibly the best typing in the game and access to STAB Earthquake, effectively letting it take on several top threats, such as Haunter, Pikachu, and Pupitar, that Wailord can struggle against. However, despite just how good the Water / Ground typing is, the 4x weakness to Grass is what really lowers Whiscash's standing in the tier; Grass is a popular coverage type on wallbreakers, Fire-types like Flareon, and Water-types like Dewgong and Wailord, since there are many Pokemon that share Whiscash's unfortunate 4x weakness. If you can cover Whiscash's abhorration of the green stuff it'll pull its weight in any match.

Wigglytuff's horrid defenses, low Speed, and massive HP stat create the perfect conditions for Wigglytuff to eat attacks and make use of Counter. Thanks to that gargantuan HP, nearly every attack Wigglytuff Counters is going to KO the foe right back. Luckily for Wigglytuff, while its horrid defenses mean it's usually 2HKOed by most Choice Band-boosted STAB moves, it usually isn't OHKOed unless it's a Fighting-type move, further increasing the use of Counter considering the large number of non-Fighting-type Choice Band users in the tier, including Graveler, Relicanth, and Pidgeot.

Fearow is a staple in UU teams, so you can just about bet your boots that you will face one in an UU tournament. It's not hard to figure out; just pick an attack move. It's one of the fastest UU Pokemon, and with Choice Band backing it, it can deal quite a fair bit of damage, even without having to be a super effective hit. Quick Attack, despite being weak, can sometimes make all the difference when you need it the most, and Hidden Power Ground is there to deal with nasty Rock or Steel-types

Heracross is one of the most fearsome wallbreakers in ADV OU that threatens slow-paced teams with Pokemon such as Claydol and defensive Celebi. Even its checks are not foolproof, as Gengar dares not burn it because of Guts, while Dugtrio risks being caught by Substitute or Salac Berry variants. Generally speaking, with support from trappers, Choice Band Heracross's STAB moves can easily overwhelm an opposing team.

Mr. Mime a great Pokemon in Baton Pass chains since he temporarily blocks Roar and Perish Song with Soundproof and can set up a great deal of moves. Not only that, but he's a great Baton Passer on his own as well, being able to shut down phazers easily. He's really fragile though and can be hard to bring in when playing with standards. Mr. Mime needs to be dealt with immediately and effectively, otherwise he can pass Calm Minds to something like Manectric which can really hurt.

While Articuno has a lot of counters, it is truly underrated. It can Roar away the feared Calm Mind Celebi, laughs at most Swampert, and can easily stall out Blissey and all sorts of Water-types. As Grass-types don't appreciate the threat of a STAB Ice Beam, Articuno does a great job at absorbing Sleep Powder and Spore, and even Milotic's Hypnosis. Additionally, Articuno nullifies Snorlax with Reflect and either Haze or Roar. It also scares away any Salamence without Rock Slide and keeps it from coming in regardless of the set. Finally, Articuno is not 2HKOed by most non-STAB Thunderbolts. It takes some prediction to do good damage with Articuno, though.

Armaldo is a very slow Pokemon, so Speed investment is largely useless. You could give it a few Speed EVs so it outruns Swampert, but this is not really necessary. On the contrary, you should give it as much Attack and HP investment as possible, and put the rest in one of its defenses. In terms of HP EVs, 188 EVs--which yield a stat of 338--should be the minimum, as that allows Armaldo to survive four Seismic Tosses after Leftovers.

Gothitelle fits best on balance and occasionally stall teams, and teammates that appreciate it removing their defensive answers do great with it. Zacian-C in particular is an excellent partner, since most teams rely on Necrozma-DM or Quagsire to beat it, which Gothitelle can trap. Kyogre struggles with Eternatus and appreciates Gothitelle's ability to trap and remove it, along with Blissey. Chansey, and Ferrothorn. Stall teams appreciate it removing Ferrothorn, since Ferrothorn can beat most common Defoggers one-on-one, as well as certain Pressure and Regenerator users like Eternatus and Ho-Oh that can often PP stall them. Gothitelle is offensively threatened by a lot and provides little to no defensive utility against hyper offense teams, so it requires a revenge killer and a proper defensive backbone. Zacian-C is a massive threat to Gothitelle; counters to it such as Necrozma-DM and Quagsire are especially appreciated. Calyrex-S is another massive threat to Gothitelle, so defensive answers to it such as Yveltal and Tyranitar are needed. Good checks to other threats such as Marshadow, Yveltal, and Xerneas are Zacian-C, specially defensive Eternatus, Necrozma-DM, Choice Scarf Calyrex-S, Ditto, and Zacian, which are also effective at stopping many offensive threats like Groudon, Reshiram, and Zekrom from sweeping.

Lickitung exists to prove that not all Normal-types are created equal. Lickitung looks promising with its access to STAB Wrap and Swords Dance, amazing coverage options, and potential to spread paralysis with Body Slam. However, it falls short literally everywhere else due to its absolutely horrendous stats. For these reasons, Lickitung remains a terrible Pokemon in RBY NU, and it shouldn't be used unless you're looking to torture yourself.

Weezing's Speed and typing are awful; this means that most, if not all, of the metagame's big threats such as Mr. Mime, Nidoking, and Golem can answer it, possessing super effective coverage to invalidate its bulk while often being able to switch in comfortably. Ergo, Weezing is often a momentum sink. To add on to this, better Poison-types like Venomoth, Nidoking, and even Muk make it very hard for Weezing to find a spot on any competitive RBY NU team.

Electabuzz is the premier Electric-type in RBY UU thanks to its base 105 Speed, which lets it outspeed tier-king Tentacruel and force it out with Thunder Wave. Its Speed also grants it an impressive 20.51% critical hit rate, making it difficult to consistently wall. Additionally, Electabuzz is blessed with good coverage in Psychic and Body Slam, which gives it a variety of ways to check threats like Dugtrio, Tangela, and Venusaur. Naturally, this also makes Electabuzz effective late-game, making Pokemon like Articuno and Dodrio think twice before going for a sweep. With its strong hit-and-run playstyle, proactive gameplay is key to being successful with Electabuzz.

Calling Hypno a good UU Pokemon would be an understatement. It is top tier UU for a reason: it walls special hits over and over, takes physical hits moderately well, and supports your team with pseudo-passing moves such as Reflect, Light Screen, and Wish. It can switch into so many things in the UU metagame.

Kingdra had often been bashed in past generations due to its poor movepool; however, DPP has given it an array of blessings, including incredible new options such as Outrage. While Kingdra's movepool still isn't anything to write home about, it can do a lot with what it has. All in all, Kingdra has changed from quite the mundane sweeper to a Pokemon that many teams will have significant problems with.

Jumpluff is by no means a bad Pokemon because it lacks the stats to attack. Instead, Jumpluff plays the role of supporting its teammates. Jumpluff can take advantage of Sleep Powder, base 110 Speed, and a plethora of support moves like Encore and Memento in UU, OU, and even in Ubers if you know how to take control of the field. Just don't expect Jumpluff to take too much torture, and you should be able to annoy all day.

Linoone is truly a blessed Pokemon. What would otherwise be a run-of-the-mill, throwaway Normal-type rodent along the likes of Raticate and Furret has access to a one-turn, game-ending sweep setup. Belly Drum turns the mild-mannered mustelid into a pillar of hellfire, a screaming Harrier jet, a towering tornado of fury wielding 1048 Attack, 405 Speed, and an 80 Base Power, STAB priority attack. Packing Linoone gives you a deadly secret weapon for when your enemy shows a moment of weakness, and once its presence is known, Linoone becomes a powerful psychological threat that will have your opponent on his toes the entire match. Adding in team support makes Linoone a fairly reliable late-game sweeper. If you have an opportunistic, high-risk high-reward playstyle, Linoone may be for you.

Uxie has become one of the most prominent Pokemon of the DPP UU metagame, and for good reason. Its massive defenses, combined with its enormous support movepool, which includes (but is certainly not limited to) Stealth Rock, Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Yawn, and U-turn, and high base Speed stat, have made it the quintessential support Pokemon. Not only that, but Uxie is also one of the most dangerous users of Calm Mind in the tier. The only things stopping this knowledgeable sprite from storming the upper tiers are its irritating Psychic typing, which leaves it weak to Pursuit and U-turn; its lackluster offenses, even with the boost provided by Calm Mind; and absence of reliable recovery outside of Rest. Have no fear though; if you're looking for a good lead, supporter, or late-game sweeper, your search has come to an end. Welcome the omniscient pixie into your team with arms wide open.
