chronically unmotivated - have only applied to 135 jobs in the 6-7mo i've been unemployed because i suck at putting effort into anything unless there's a do-or-die sense of urgency and that hasn't kicked in yet
There was an article in wsj or somewhere this week that the hottest jerb in law firms isn't lawyer is AI specialist. Maybe you can use ur tech skills to finally partake in scholarly legal sweet treats
i think i would move back before digging into my 401(k) but would rather deplete my IRA than uproot my life and mooch off of them
it's further complicated by the fact that my mom just got diagnosed with breast cancer, which i know gets expensive and ultimately bankrupts a lot of olds. she's working and insured but she's not sure how much of the treatment will be covered by insurance

Sucks. You're a good poster even if you wish death upon the respite this forum provides from the rest of the world
I genuinely feel bad for people of your age. You came just a bit too late to really enjoy the best era America had to offer and, unless you were deliberate, a good chance to accumulate wealth before the total rug pull we're heading towards (though we might all be fucked if AI hacks assets with no way for the affected to prove genuine ownership for restitution)
Would strongly encourage you to avoid hitting your 401k. It may genuinely be all that stands against you and UBI / government provisions of insect proteins if you survive the turmoil to get there
Trader Joes and Costco supposedly pay good wages with good benefits. Would genuinely try to get in there if our situations were reversed and I was having no luck elsewhere. Would also try to create dumb apps and games for phones that might lead to a quick payday while I wait for the phone to ring from a job I actually want
tyty. well, i have a traditional IRA with about $50k in it and a 401(k) with $425k and i wouldn't touch the 401(k) but the IRA i always forget about anyways and consider kind of expendable.
yeah retail is definitely a possibility but i think interacting with people all day and having to be nice regardless of how unreasonable they are would exhaust me. good idea about dumb apps and games. and i still gotta try my social media debate thing.

You should start a twitch stream and learn how to play difficult but popular games in low cut but not gratuitous tops
If you get the banter right and can stomach playing games for several hours at a time, I'd be shocked if you couldn't clear a couple thousand dollars a month after a couple of months creating an audience. Substantially more over time if you get the vibe and banter and games right
Debate would be fun...totally forgot about that. Should make it happen and have an open mic for motherfuckers like me
yeah i tried streaming Rocket League a few times a few years ago and it went pretty well! i'd rather do the debate thing though since i'm Bad at Games. and yes after i do it a few times i'll open it up to xoers

It's very much the "I'm not good at this" aspect that is the path for quick success. Game choice, having difficulty, and doing your best to persevere has a huge potential audience
Stream shit like Elden Ring or Dark Souls or whatever the modern equivalents are. Have a good attitude and play up the "this is hard but I'm TRYING" (and actually try) aspect, and I bet you will be successful
i'm the WG in a WGWAG relationship with a cute Filipino i met at karaoke
my friends and band and everything are here and the weather is 180; i don't wanna live somewhere else. if i were open to relocation i'd just move back in with my parents. i fly back to see them 5-10x a year anyways, it's 180
yes moving in together is another option and we've talked about it and he's down. but at this point splitting rent wouldn't really stretch out my remaining money THAT much longer, and i want a solution that doesn't involve relying on someone else.
i have exes on this board so i won't talk about my bf's dick but it's a nice BAC

i read all the whining on here and x and everywhere else, but the fact that you’re unable to get a job is still eye-opening as to how bad it apparently is out there. wow.
probably - white women are the group that benefited most from DEI
but it's more that remote jobs are all super competitive because all the laid-off SWEs in the country can apply to them. the ones i've gotten the furthest on (like the one where i got through all the technical rounds and then they had me do a surprise VP round and then ghosted me) have mostly been hybrid, which makes sense because it's a smaller applicant pool.
cr but i've gotten SO CLOSE with enough companies that it feels within reach. i should really be banging out like 50 a week
i did apply for an SAT tutoring job but didn't hear back, which is kinda crazy. but idk if they even had an opening or if the application page is just always up

Here's an idea. Stop smoking weed and poasting and going out drinking and partying and actually apply yourself for a while. You could just tune out the noise for a while and hunker down. Once you found a job you could go right back to the debauchery. I think your issue is a lack of motivation to return to work. If you really wanted it you could find a job. I've seen you apply to jobs when it really matters to you. You have the power to push yourself. You have another gear. So just do it. As soon as you achieve your goal of employment you can go right back to your old ways but how about cutting out the bullshit for a couple months or however long it takes? Tell your friends I can't go out tonight. Go to bed early. This is basic shit. Just power through and quit half assing it. You're God's gift at coding just go out and prove it.
