Maybe longer. Maybe less. Maybe only after I make a few replies in this thread. I don't know.
What I do know is that I just can't handle having every single thing I've done grealty mischaracterized and being hated by so many people for things that I either didn't do or were outside of my control, and continuously being exposed to these things is unhealthy. I can handle being defamed by Leiter or having people spread lies about me to T14 law school deans, but I can't handle having that going on the same week that people on this community are doing the same thing.
I know this makes me look weak, but unfortunately I'm not a great communicator and even I know that nothing I say is going to change anyone's minds at this point.
rachmiel and I are not the type of people who will publicly humiliate someone who has been such a great part of the community and who has just made a couple of mistakes. Yes, NYCFan deleted stuff he shouldn't. But the fact is that he's a tremendous asset to this community, and instead of kicking him out because he made a few mistakes we thought it would be better to just clarify the deletion guidelines more and change the way the mod interface works so that the few mistakes he does make can be reversed at the click of a button. I truly don't understand what's so wrong with that -- there's no harm done whatsoever.

Dude, distance yourself from the community. Post as GTO only when you're making official announcements, and make sure they are 1) meaningful 2) clear and 3) comprehensive.
I'm trying really hard to do that but it's impossible when people won't let me take a backseat by getting all up in arms when I try to delegate the mundane stuff to other people.

correct. people love to bond over hating authority figures; it's just a community-building thing, nothing against you personally. dont take any of this xoxo stuff to heart

the ONLY two things that i think are valid criticisms are:
1. your steadfast insistence on retaining some 50-year old harvard troll as a mod and your concomitant refusal to explain why you would keep someone so apparently biased in that role.
2. your occasionally playing favorites when it comes to enforcing your outting "policy" though this is a very minor concern, IMO.
3. your refusal to show us your 1040 schedules.
also while i favor mods to keep this place functioning and free of bullshit it is clearly the type of thing that youneed to quietly take care of in the background so the tinfoil hat waearing goatfuckers on this board dont start bitching and moaning.

2) It's not "my" anti-outing policy, it's rachmiel's, and it's been very consistently enforced. Again, I don't see how anyone is playing favorites. If you self-outed, it doesn't get deleted, no matter who you are. If you outed someone else, it doesn't get deleted, no matter who you are. If you are not self-outed and did not out someone else, it gets deleted. It's a very simple and straightforward policy that is very easy to enforce, and the people who complain about their names not being removed because of "bias" are people who are self-outed (e.g. Blue Smoke and leaky juice box) or who outed other people (e.g. Madame Cunt and LoreleiLee) -- kind of ironic since they're the ones looking for favoritism by asking for exceptions to the longstanding rule.

I don't really mean to attack you by asking this, but isn't your definition of outting "correctly connecting an IRL name or substantial info to an xoxo moniker"?
If its not PW, I don't see how it fits rach's definition of outting. Personally, I'm for a much more inclusive outting policy, so it doesn't bother me, but I just don't see how its consistent.
a lot of it is just bluesmoke spitting her venum. she is the one that actually says all the harsh stuff about you and tries to spread it around. she is very heinous and unforgiving. i'm sure her fugly face has something to do with it.

I know you already know this, but I support you (and rachmiel) 100% and understand that you put up with a lot of shit. But I think that the silent majority really has a good understanding of how much time and effort you've put into this place and appreciate it. So I speak on behalf of them to say thank you and please don't get sick of us, you know it's just our nature to be critical and overbearing of authority.

I can hardly take this post seriously. What do you care? You need to put some emotional distance between yourself and the people who post here. Run the board however you want to run it--you must have some purpose or goal in mind in creating it. Just do what you think is best and ignore the feedback.
It's hard to put distance when I constantly get emails and phone calls from deans, lawyers, students, etc. who think I should be personally responsible, be subject to discipline at school, reported to the bar, reported to my firm, etc. for every single thing some idiot posts on here even though I couldn't get rid of it if I wanted to, while at the same time I get attacked by people here for getting rid of and/or not getting rid of things I have no control over.
I used to believe in what this place stands for. After this week, not so sure. It's like some people in this community want the whole thing to go to hell, and I really don't understand why.

There is a certain degree of Hobbesian anarchism that comes with the anonymity. I think a premise of the board is that anonymity is necessary to bring forth critical information about firms, schools, legal practice, etc. That's probably true. I suggest reworking the whole project as a managed information flow. You could (1) maintain your salary and summer associate and other such sites, and allow people to submit anonymous data. That's kind of old-school and counter to the way internet data collection/presentation is going. Also/or (2) focus your efforts on a wiki, with a group of serious editors. Option 2 allows you to collect information in a more free-form manner, with allowance for discussion and debate, but with much more constraint than this setup.
The legal profession needs information exchange, but a message board isn't the only way to do it.
You know I've always supported you, but I think some of this is a natural result of taking a stand that any contribution or traffic to the board adds value, no matter what it is. Some of this is akin to keeping poisonous snakes in the home and then complaining when one bites you.
hey when your protected class includes idiots and you're willing to fall on a sword for their right to be idiots...maybe a break would be good. I have to get out of here sometimes

I've been posting here for years, and I am totally confused by what is going on here in the last few days. What is this, a fucking ladies club? Jesus people--this is an internet message board. It's starting to seem like some of you fags actually care what happens to it.
Where's fucking chinese IRL dude when you need him.
