Cities would be better off using the same space and right of way for dedicated bus lines. Unlike light rail cars, a bus can leave the segregated transit corridor and move on to surface streets. Busses are also cheaper and far less exotic to maintain. However, urban professionals that light rail is designed to serve, would never ride a bus. The boring company takes the idea of the segregated transit but uses self driving pods. Self driving cars in general make a lot of these big city transportation projects irrelevant. Date: November 8th, 2026 6:15 AM Author: harry potter and the nihilists of azkaban i agree that you can't replace it but i think this is supposed to be a load decreasing supplementary measure with its own lateral, novel infrastructure so it doesn't tax already existing outlets removing driver error from the equation with cybernetics also cuts down on roadway inefficiency bigly. not a fan of self driving cars for liberty reasons/current ev tech as a general solution for the nation but for metropolitan areas its a nice measure and smart eventually you could have a segregated class of automated taxi systems that for all intents and purposes use different sectors of tunnel roads to get people around a city like a train would but without individual users having to plan their transit around set schedules. offers more choice to users and could improve the general "time economy" in a city |
