37's *later* 30s.
Girls in the 28-32 age group who have the highest dating market value can still do well within their age group without having to go older. To maximize quantity as well as quality his target age group should be 33-38.

That's a little high. I'd say 30-35 would be the group he'd have best results with, though. There are a lot of women who won't date guys who are 10 years older.

I guess it depends on a lot of factors. I was thinking more about the average 37-year-old in a normal city.
Depending on looks, career, money, location and other factors the guy could target 28-32 successfully.
He'll have good options in the 30-35 age group but he'll be competing with younger guys for the most attractive single women in their late 20s and early 30s, and not many girls in that age group are keen on going almost a decade older.

Like many other things you say, this is a probably a lie. HTH.
I miss when you'd whine about how your desire to become a pampered suburban housewife seemed remote because no decent guys would wife you. The new self-confident and satisfied iteration of your board persona is kind of even more soulless and artificial than your old posting style, which was open about your deep disappointment and frustration with your station in life.

To some degree. Honestly, if I meet an attractive guy that I get along with and I find out he's in his late(r) 30s it's a bit of a turnoff. When I was in high school or college, if I found out a guy was younger than me I was similarly turned off. Most of the time I got over it, sometimes I didn't. I don't know many people in their late 30s so the idea of finding one sexually attractive is like finding a woman sexually attractive. I can objectively look at an attractive woman and think she is beautiful but there's no desire there to have sex with her.
Date: May 31st, 2010 11:55 PM Author: Duck-like Abode
There are bits of turnoffs about every person. The thing with age is that not only is the person likely to be less physically attractive but there is a time-in-your-life difference which may cause a disconnect between the two people. Even stuff as simple as reminiscing about common TV shows and songs from your childhood can remind the two of you that you grew up in different generations.
Maybe I know an atypical group of people in this age group, but none of the single girls from 28-32 (or even older) have any problems dating men around their own age. Some may prefer older men for reasons of their own (or may end up with someone 5+ years older) but I haven't at all noticed that single women in this age group have little options with men around their own age, especially in larger cities where the good ones aren't likely to be taken.
Date: June 1st, 2010 12:09 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
I don't disagree but since it's rather impolite to ask the age of someone you just met you find a lot of men in the 28-32 age group meeting and liking women in the same age group.
You meet someone, talk to them, realize that you want to see them again. You're curious about their age but by the time you realize you like them and are attracted to them it doesn't matter as much as you thought it did.
I see this playing out as a strict preference much more on dating sites than IRL.

And how old are you?
I find that online dating helps if you really want to screen for age (or other factors) but I can't see why someone in college would need to resort to it to get dates.

how old are you? And why would any attractive college girl be on OKC? it seems that only desperate chicks would risk others seeing their profile or wouldn't be able to meet a guy at college.

college girls want the most high status guy at their college usually though or maybe a law or MBA student. Most don't actively look outside it seems, though seniors or girls in big cities like NYC are probably different.

This.
The hottest girls in college weren't the ones who were looking outside college for dating, unless it was to date a recent graduate or a friend from their non-college social circle (high school, friends of parents and so on).

Maybe 15 years ago, but not so much now. USC and UCLA are pretty equal. A 1999 USC grad is much more likely to be dumber than a 1999 UCLA grad. Not really the case for the 2009 grads.
Either way, I doubt a USC or UCLA sorority woman would be on OKC, and it doesn't look like OKC's capturing your target "young and smart" audience.
Date: June 1st, 2010 1:16 AM Author: Emerald stimulating stage
LOL, USC isn't even close to equal. They changed the way they report their USNews rankings and that helped somewhat. Basically, if students take more than one SAT (which they all do), USC combines the top scores from different sections to come up with a new SAT number that the kid never actually got.
Also, its reputation scores are shit. Anybody from California knows that USC is more like UCSB or UCSD than UCLA.

i agree the culture gap between UCLA and USC has narrowed but the stereotypes are still fairly true.
my girl is on a full ride to UCLA and has a high GPA. i don't know about the average on OKC, but their questions make it very easy to screen out dumbs.

i thought this was just in general, not a specific couple we're talking about. in general, most 35 yr olds would probably NOT treat an 18 yr old seriously. I was dating a 27 yr old player type of guy when I was 21 and he said i was too 'immature' for him and just saw me as a P&D situation (i recognized this though and as i didn't want to be 'played' i didn't have sex with him.) in retrospect, i was probably more mature than him in some ways. but guys will just see pretty younger girls as an 'easy' prospect.
Date: June 1st, 2010 12:11 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
I agree, but the issue isn't whether one age group is more open to NSA sex. It's whether guys in their later 20s are more likely to view a 22 year old or a 28 year old as relationshippable.
Date: June 1st, 2010 12:24 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
If you think of it that way (i.e. the 28-year-old is settling for you and doesn't so much like you for who you are) then sure.
I had a conversation with two of my superiors the other day about this. Both are married men in their late 30s. One married an older woman and the other married a woman around his age who keeps in excellent shape. The former was giving me the advice to date younger guys and couldn't understand why a guy my boyfriend's age would date a 22-year-old (his last GF was 22 or 23). The latter explained to him that a lot of men prefer that age gap/age group.
I think men are split on the issue like women are.
Date: June 1st, 2010 12:26 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
What are you disagreeing with? My point was that 28-32 year old men would differ on whether the 22 year old or the 28 year old would be more relationshippable.
You and Fish fall on one side of the spectrum but I've seen many guys fall on the other. They date younger girls for a while but end up marrying a girl their age. Something like that.
Date: June 1st, 2010 12:47 AM Author: pea-brained mustard hospital stock car
For LTR? it would depend on the quality of the girl. The 28 yr old could certainly be better if she's hot, mature and would make a good wife/mother. I'd probably prefer 26-27 on average and I'm in that age group. 22 would have to show uncommon maturity for an attractive American girl her age.
Date: June 1st, 2010 1:09 AM Author: Emerald stimulating stage
I mean, you're right, but there's no need to be a dick about it. Imagine if you wanted to be an accomplished person but you knew by doing so you would actually be making yourself less attractive. Life's really unfair. I guess that's the trade-off for being able to get laid whenever you want and being able to have multiple orgasms. But then they have to spit out kids too.

who cares... i'm 25 and attractive, but i date older guys and can date younger guys if i wanted too. i get hit on by all ages... (unfortunately.) but I tend to like guys who are more mature & have their shit together, and confidence. if we have chemistry and he's still goodlooking, i'd date a guy in his mid-30s no problem.

i'm a former promotional model and hotter than probably 99% of this board, and retiring hth. so in other words, i really don't give a shit what you think, but the fact is that attractive girls in their mid-20s DO have options - but some prefer dating older men for different reasons. this is pretty standard knowledge - why xoxo tries to troll against it is so stupid.

The guys are projecting. They live for the fantasy of being able to slay a bunch of twentysomething CGWBTs all the way up until their forties by virtue of their biglaw salary.
Their description of male and female dating preferences re: age is so overwhelmingly inconsistent with my IRL experience it's shocking.

"the fact is that attractive girls in their mid-20s DO have options - but some prefer dating older men for different reasons"
I don't think anyone is trying to troll against younger women and older men, but the preference isn't as universal as you make it out to be. Most people I know (friends, acquaintances, co-workers) who are in serious relationships are dating someone within 5 years of their age. Those who are dating someone older (both men and women) have partners who are very physically fit and look younger.
For every girl in her mid to late 20s who prefers older men and is open to guys in the mid to late 30s age group there is another girl who will consider the same guy too old.
Date: May 31st, 2010 11:48 PM Author: Duck-like Abode
I worded that inartfully. I don't think the breakdown is 50-50. It's more like this:
Around 25% (or less) of mid-20s girls prefer dating a guy in his mid 30s to dating men closer to their age.
Around 30% of mid-20s girls would be open to dating a guy in his mid 30s IF there was an attraction there (which can be a fairly big "if", depending on the particular guy).
Around 45% (or more) of mid-20s girls have a much stronger preference for guys within 5 years of their age.

A good-looking 37 year old with money, security, and personality can probably go as young as he wants if he keeps shopping around.
An average looking guy with average finances can probably go a 4-5 years younger without compromising on too much if he shops around and looks for younger women.
An ugly and poor 37 year old should take what he can get.
Date: May 31st, 2010 11:05 PM Author: brass box office marketing idea
It's a scale, not strict categories. Say, an ugly midlaw partner with a typical lawyer personality? Quite a bit lower, again, depending on what he'll compromise on.
And as :D notes, the door remains open for men as time marches on. Women have to be like 1/10,000 good-looking or rich in order to have the same kind of options. Not necessarily fair, just how society seems to work.

Point? You asserted that any woman in that age range who would go down that road is either a greedy cunt or has issues. You're 30, so you dating guys in their late 30s is not strange in the least.

So does everyone on XO know my birthday? I was unaware that I turned 30. Either way, if I have enough success dating men in the 28-32 age group (or even younger), what incentive do I have to go older when that's clearly not my physical preference? My BF (private equity, Ivy grad, college athlete) could probably get the pick of the 22-23 year old CGWBTs but he's with ME. An "aging NYC azn female". Bam. No reason to specifically target the oldboys here. I'm ambivalent about kids so the biological clock isn't a concern of mine.

She's more likely to be one than the women who prefer guys around their age or the women who don't care about age.

1. Remarkable consistency with answering posts with personal details/boasting rather than substance. Truthful or not, your personal examples never do anything to actually strengthen your assertions. The point is that women in your age and position date guys that age all the time, whether or not they're settling, which is the assumption that you make and constantly bristle against whenever this topic is discussed. Your reactions telegraph massive security that is somehow tapped by the topic.
2. 30 pretty much looks like 30, even for Asians. The issue is more whether you're aging well. No matter what, it's certain that you don't look substantially younger than your age once you're in your late 20s. Almost no women do.
3. You're 30 or older. In a thread a long ways back, somebody pinned your by linking posts, as well as your contradictory statements on the matter.
4. Your speculating and sidestepping on this issue is hilarious. At first you assert that any woman who would date guys at that age is damaged in some way, now you're couching it as just "more likely." The point of the post was that if a guy is attractive and appealing in most ways, he has a wide range to choose from and many younger women are going to be completely open to dating him. It's your weird reactions/insecurities on this topic that lead you to state that any woman who would make that age jump has some kind of problem.
Date: June 1st, 2010 12:34 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
1. Since I haven't engaged in large-scale empirical studies on this topic I only have personal anecdotes to go off of. I don't know if any of us have engaged in a major, widespread study about age preferences in heterosexual dating so we're all going off personal anecdotes.
2. I definitely look older now than what I did when I was 20. Maybe I look like what a girl in her late 20s to early 30s is supposed to look like and the girls who did all of the fake tanning, smoking and drugs are being artificially aged. And maybe, by virtue of my genes, I look better than most white girls my age. Whatever. The point is that I haven't had the need to "go older" to get a serious BF, Rowan hasn't, and so forth.
"The point of the post was that if a guy is attractive and appealing in most ways, he has a wide range to choose from and many younger women are going to be completely open to dating him."
I wasn't disagreeing with this. I was calling into question the QUALITY of the women on the way lower end of the eligible age spectrum if they would be interested in a man in his late 30s. I include things like gold-digging or mental instability/co-dependence as factors which affect a woman's quality.
I have a BF who is one year younger than me and is probably more preftigious than anyone who poasts here. As far as I'm concerned I have no problems dating in my desired age group and that's all that matters to me.

So again, your argument is that only women lacking in quality could possibly be into this. More sweeping statements that tacitly enforce the thing you always troll for in these threads - guys can only attract younger women with problems.

I don't see anything wrong with talking about personal experiences and preferences on dating threads, or relating the broad statements made in these threads back to your personal experiences. Everyone seems to be doing the same. And how am I boasting? Since when is it boasting for a 29-year-old girl claiming to date a 28-year-old guy with a similar education and career path?

Let's boil down what's been said:
Me and other dudes: Guys can date younger if they've got things going on for them
You: Yes, true, but those girls are all headcases or golddiggers
Guys: Not really, personal experience and obvious social truth indicate otherwise
You: My personal experience is that I don't HAVE to date older guys, my friends don't either, my boyfriend is more prestigious than all of you, and my age.
Guys: So?
You: *repeats some garbled mash-up of previous statements
And your statements are dubious because you contradict yourself on XO all the time.

"And your statements are dubious because you contradict yourself on XO all the time."
About what do I contradict myself? I've never contradicted myself about the basic facts I've stated ITT.
"Yes, true, but those girls are all headcases or golddiggers"
I think I clarified from "all" to "most".
But I do think that most American/Western girls in their early to mid 20s who have a preference for men in their early to mid 30s or older are more likely to be gold diggers or have certain self-esteem/relationship issues than women who don't care about age or prefer men closer to their age.
Finding yourself drawn to an older man is different than having a broad preference for older men.

If I'm attracted to the guy and we get along I don't care what his age is.
Same reasons as to why I'd go older than my age group, but given my personal tastes it's much more likely that I'll go younger than my desired age range than older.

I know it's not uncommon but that's not the default, go-to age group for most single girls I know in their late 20s to early 30s.
And many of the guys I know in their later 30s (even those with money and looks) are open to dating women their age. I only know this because I see them dating and getting engaged and married to women their age.
Where age becomes an issue is in terms of the timeline - a younger girl has a longer timeline and doesn't want to settle down as quickly and this can be attractive to guys who also aren't ready to settle down.

I'm referring to your attitude that you'd go on "one date" with a charming attractive guy in his mid to late 30's as if it was some kind of favor to him. This hypo guy can date most women your age and doesn't need your favor. 36 or 37 is not an autoding for a 30 yr old woman in most cases. She may generally not date guys that are 36 or 37, but that has more to do with who she meets and hangs around with, etc. Even Rowan will go about that high IIRC.
A guy in his late 30's doesn't marry a woman his age unless he's forced to. Ticking is way too loud.

" She may generally not date guys that are 36 or 37, but that has more to do with who she meets and hangs around with, etc."
And that has a lot to do with who I meet and hang out with as well. i don't know many people who are 36+.
"his hypo guy can date most women your age and doesn't need your favor."
Yeah, but "most women my age" includes a wide variation of quality (as men judge quality).
"I'm referring to your attitude that you'd go on "one date" with a charming attractive guy in his mid to late 30's as if it was some kind of favor to him."
I'm sure that if another girl my age were substituted in, the guy might be doing the favor to her by agreeing to this hypothetical date. But not all women are created equal.
The bottom line is that if someone (man or woman) is having enough success with their desired age group, why move to a less desirable age group? And, for me, late 30s is much less desirable than late 20s (all things equal).

it seems like age is really a big factor for you. It's not so much for me. I mean for LTR purposes I guess I have a range of about 10 years and if she's in that range it all depends on other factors. You seem much more rigid.
when you think women your age see a guy as "older"? 3 yrs? 5? 8?
Date: June 1st, 2010 1:20 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
"when you think women your age see a guy as "older"? 3 yrs? 5? 8?"
I think it depends on the woman's circle of friends. If she's used to socializing with people 5+ years older than her then she's going to see that as "normal" and men her age as "younger".
"it seems like age is really a big factor for you."
It is, but that's probably just tangentially related to my personal preferences. I like babyfaced guys and don't like the "rugged man" look. So I never saw the appeal to older-looking men. All of the XO trolling against older women and for larger age gaps has made me a bit stubborn in these threads, I do admit. And part of me thinks it's an ego thing - I feel like a guy is more "prestigious" if he's younger than a certain age. Like I feel like I can get any 35+ guy that I want, so the idea of dating one of them becomes much less appealing. I like the idea of being able to get and keep guys that could easily date attractive younger women.

in your circle. I know you've claimed to have a bunch of hot/smart friends, when does a guy's age become a factor at all? Is it 5 yrs older? a little more than that?

It's not schtick. It's actually how I feel. I'm just admitting it.
"when does a guy's age become a factor at all? Is it 5 yrs older? a little more than that?"
All across the board, but we all agree that if you like someone and are attracted to them it's not that big of a deal. I agree - liking someone, connecting with them and all of that trumps any prestige factor.
If there's a specific girl you want to date and she is younger, go for it.
Date: June 1st, 2010 2:29 AM Author: pea-brained mustard hospital stock car
"If there's a specific girl you want to date and she is younger, go for it."
obviously. My thinking was more trying to get into a woman's mind when she thinks about this. A woman who is age-conscious. Like what kind of age difference between your friend and her bf would surprise you - that kind of thing. Or what kind of age difference might be somewhat of a disadvantage for the guy. You said yourself your friends recoiled at the pics of one of your friends and her husband who was much older.
Seems to me that up to 5-6 years is no big deal at all, and larger differences than that can be more of an obstacle. Not saying i won't go for it; this is more about generalizations. E.g. is a girl 8 yrs younger much more likely to autoding you than a girl 5 yrs younger, or 3 yrs younger, etc.
Date: June 1st, 2010 2:59 AM Author: Duck-like Abode
"Like what kind of age difference between your friend and her bf would surprise you - that kind of thing."
Depends on the ages of the people involved. I would be very shocked if one of my 28-29 year old male friends started dating someone in the 18-22 age group (sorry, TMF) unless there was some common tie between them like grad school.
A 28-32 year old girl dating 7-10 years older isn't weird but because there's such a variation between how both men and women look at that age and also between what stage of your life you are in, this kind of age range creates some incongruous couples.
As for late 20s guys (your age group), it's a mixed bag. Many 23-year-olds hang out with a bunch of 28-32 year olds as well as with people their own age so interacting with people 5+ years older isn't odd at all. Look to see if a girl's friends and acquaintances are mainly around her age. This will give you a good idea as to what age group she sees herself fitting best in.
"E.g. is a girl 8 yrs younger much more likely to autoding you than a girl 5 yrs younger, or 3 yrs younger, etc."
I'd agree with this, but keep in mind that many girls' age prejudices (including mine) have much more to do with attraction and preftige than how long you've been on this earth. Some girls think that older, accomplished, polished men are the more "preftigious" catch. Other girls aren't attracted to the bald, gray or weathered look.
I also keep referring to the time-in-your-life issue. An older man in his mid 30s might be divorced or have kids. A 28-year-old girl who still parties with a bunch of mid 20s to early 30s people might find it hard to relate to this person whereas a 23-year-old who's been a bit through the school of hard knocks might find him more relatable than people her age.

Why do you think there's so much age trolling and age-related hostility toward the single women on this board who are older than a certain age?
Honestly, as an unmarried woman in that age all of this "30-year-old women are hags with no options" does affect me, mostly because it doesn't comport with what I've experienced or witnessed.
All I'm trying to say is that women have varying attitudes toward age, and from what I've experienced, so do men. And depending on the particular person in question, his or her ability to date within a desired age range is dependent on so many other factors besides their own age.

Women alone in their 30s 99% of the time have severe mental problems that warrant hostility. Then you combine this with the xo female delusion of her options.

lol, pathetic response and doesn't explain your shitty strawmanning in the least. deferring to some kind of XO "basement virgins coveting money in the hopes of getting laid one day" stereotype to justify how brutally lazy and off-base your comments are is comically weak.
"Why do you think there's so much age trolling and age-related hostility toward the single women on this board who are older than a certain age?"
clearly it gets a rise out of dumb posters like you. all the same, you can't explain away your bullshit responses to arguments that aren't being made by whining about trolling elsewhere on the board.
"Honestly, as an unmarried woman in that age all of this "30-year-old women are hags with no options" does affect me, mostly because it doesn't comport with what I've experienced or witnessed."
clearly it does affect you because you go fucking bananas in all these threads, much more so than rowan or anyone else, and they're almost always targeted for ridicule, where as you just stick your nose in when you see it because it apparently chaps your ass so badly.

which is basically what most of the dudes in this thread said. congratulations.

Pink Cadillac deserves more criticism for her viewpoint that it's fine to go along with a friend setting her up to have a date with a "backburner option" while she's in a serious long term relationship with a guy she really likes.
The age thing matters far less than her twisted way of justifying her thoughts and actions.

this is a rare post from you that doesn't contain sickness inducing, over the top, DHV. gj. Unless your second sentence is supposed to be facetious, then killself.

The second sentence is half facetious but I do approach relationships nowadays with a much more businesslike fervor whereas before I just didn't give a shit and figured these aren't the kinds of things you can plan or game. I view being single with much more trepidation than I used to, partly because it takes so long to find someone that I actually respect enough to date seriously.

Enjoy your CGWBT's sagging tits and crumbling face! Looks like she shouldn't have smoked all of those menthols and hit the tanning bed all those times!

And what would that do for my dating prospects? I don't see the hot mixed girls doing any worse than the hot white girls with the same pools of men. I went to a warm-weather university known for its hot chicks and the mixed girls dated the same guys as the attractive white girls. Even among my preferred demographic (preppy, anglo guys) I don't see my ethnicity being an attractiveness issue. For every dude who isn't attracted to me because I'm not his type there are just as many dudes who prefer me because I am their type. And there are a shit ton of dudes who think hot is hot and don't really have a set type!

If anything, I am more ashamed of the white side of my heritage than the azn side of my heritage.
The concept of the self-hating azn is just ridiculously offensive to me. I don't get my pants in a bunch about racist shit but this one strikes a nerve.

You are flame, but let's pretend for a second that you are real. You are one of a few individuals where their other character flaws overshadow even something as egregious as self-hate/auto-racism.
