By 30, you should be done with your education, you should know yourself, you should have a very permanent career that you will most likely be in for the rest of your life, you should be married or close to it, you should have most, if not all, of your lifelong friends, what else is there left after 30? Sure, your career might still have yet to peak, and you might not have had kids yet, but those things are just natural progressions of things that should already be set in motion before 30.
So what does this imply about the 20's? I think it means that there is absolutely no reason to hold back anything during your 20's. If this were a race, this is already the last lap that actually matters. We should be going all in on every hand that we play, because the game will be over soon, and these are the last years where you are allowed to take risks in a real and fundamental sense; for while we are still young, there is no such thing as failure, for we can do no wrong.
Of course, it also means that to waste any time in your 20's is a crime against yourself. That said, I am retiring from xoxo effective immediately. |
