I don't think my grades after 1L will be top 10%, so no T14 for me most likely. Grades will probably be in the top 10-20% category. I would be giving up about 20k/year to transfer. Think it's worth it? I want biglaw if at all possible, and am a prestige whore unfortunately. Consider this with or without law review - which is possible.

15-18 yes if you get in (but you wont get in probably)
19-25 you'll probably get in and I guess it might be worth it, though biglaw will be hit or miss. just keep in mind if you go to minnesota or WUSTL you're probably going to be stuck in the midwest
10-20% wont cut it at most T2s for biglaw through OCI with perhaps exceptions for Brooklyn and Dozo (not sure on this)

If I'm where I think I am (btw 10-20%) it will depend on law review. If I get it, I can probably get a V100 in my market. Without it, I doubt biglaw is a possibility.

uh good luck with V100. that's quite a stretch for a 10-20% at a T2 (unless you have IP background or URM). have you actually looked at your schools alumni at local firms and talked to people who did 2L OCI?

Right, top 10% is really the cut off, but with Law Review it's definitely possible to get biglaw outside top 10%, provided you are fairly close to it. At least that's how it works at my school.
Well I think you should try to cover all the bases. Really try to make lrev (though the comp might be over now...idk) in addition to sending transfer applications to some 10-25 schools.

if you're at dozo or brooklyn I could definetly see it worth it to stay for that scholarship (assuming near 10% and LR). St John's I wouldn't think so, perhaps at newark

You will not get into a Top 20 school coming from a Tier 2 unless you are in the top 20 students, not %, in your class. Hope this fucking helps, toilet dweller.

So you think that a #16 school will take you from a tttttttttttttttier 2 being in the top 20% but magically a #14 school will only take you being in the top 10%. You're a friggin retard. Good luck getting dinged everywhere you apply. You will not transfer to a Top 20 being only in the Top 20%. Ain't gonna happen. Not unless you're a URM.

Dr. Dipshit -
what makes you think that school's like Minnesottta, Wustttl, and even gtttown have a hard and fast rule that nobody outside of the top 20 PEOPLE can transfer? you honestly think they auto-reject t10%?

My statement was no more absurd than the assertion that Top 20% at a fucking tier 2 means you are somehow in at a #15 or 16, but are an auto reject from #14. That is fucking ludicrous particularly in light of the absurdly large class size at Georgetown. Absolute crock of shit.

If its Brooklyn, you def have a shot. I know a classmate who was just a hair outside the top 15% (or maybe 20) who wanted to move out of NYC so she transferred to Northwestern Law.
The classmates who transferred out to NYU and Columbia were all in the top 5%. With top 20% rank, I dont think you should have any trouble going to a Top 25 LS. Just make sure you have a good essay explaining why you want to transfer besides just writing, 'because your school is ranked higher'.

Anything special that person had for transferring to NU? NU is pretty impressive from 15% - I'm just looking for something like Vandy or GW or something if I get 15% from my school.

Well she sat next to me in Con Law our first semester. She came in with a very small scholarship, her undergrad was University of Chicago...she had 1-2 yrs of experience before LS. She didnt mention transferring until midway through 1L, around March or April. She mentioned leaving NYC because she missed Chicago and wanted to be closer to her family. She said that was the only reason she transferred, her 1L grades were solid but nothing amazing (B+'s, A-'s).
Anything is possible. Don't let this board depress you. You wont know unless you try.

Thanks for the info. I might throw out a couple to schools in the lower T14 just as hail mary's. This is of course all speculative, because I haven't gotten my grades back yet, but I'm fairly certain I'll be about 15-20%. It's a long shot from my school, but yeah, who knows.

First of all fucknuts, Brooklyn is Top tier and ranked around #66 - not a Tier 2 - major fucking difference.
Second of all fucknuts, there is a major major fucking difference between being Top 5% and merely Top 20% --> you cannot assume that "uhhhh lemmme see - top 5% getsa a top 5 school, meathinka topa 20% gets a top 20 school. Yeah yeah." If that were true, EVERYONE WHO IS TOP 20% AT A TTTTTTTTTTIER 2 *WOULD* TRANSFER TO A TOP 20. IDIOT. Fucking 'tard. I swear.
