Ok. Not going to say when I started for my own protection, but I'm a first year at STB.
BEWARE: you are going to work like you've never worked before at this sweatshop. I already hate it. Biggest lie they ever told me was that it had "better hours than the other V5 firms." What utter bullshit: the security guards that work the shift after midnight already know my name.
My classmate warned me about this in law school, but I thought it was just unique with her. Knowing that they only have to pay you that magical $145K, these partners work you like crazy.
Screw big law. Screw my hours. Screw STB. I'll type out the stories later, I'm going to sleep now.

Can you elaborate more about the kind of work you do? Are the partners nice and helpful despite the long hours? Do you think you're getting something out of those long hours, e.g. developing expertise in cases/matters, or is it mindless busy work that doesn't help you develop your skills at all?

exactly. it amazes me that people complain about long hours in NYC biglaw. that's expected. what's not expected, however, is how they treat you during those long hours. some firms can be assholes about getting you to work weekends while at others, the hours may be long but at least you're treated respectfully, which makes staying at the office at 1am that much more bearable.

all you do is brag about your cravath offer. i'm very happy for you that you've been so fortunate, but a person with class doesn't flaunt accomplishments in people's faces.

what does "Agreed. I can deal with the NY hours. I can't deal with being treated disrespectfully and like someone's bitch." have to do with what you just said? Am I missing something here?

it should be ridiculously obvious to you that this guy is flame. people from top schools who summered at cravath generally don't brag, in part because it's douchey, but in larger part because it's absolutely routine and underwhelming information to share.

maybe the guy's smarter than me, but even if that's true, it doesn't change that he's a pompous prick for going around bragging about some good fortune the universe has bestowed upon him. TO may be a great athlete, but who wants to be around a guy who thinks he's better than you and tells you so?

it isn't THAT you have to do it... if you go in with the expectation that there will be long hours, it isn't so bad. What sucks is when people are not humane about it (or if they themselves aren't willing to be held to the same standards). Its all about leadership/people skills... I'll go to war for you if I really believe you have my best interests at heart or if its a team effort and I am part of the cause. But when people are pricks about it, it is psychologically 100X harder to take. So, pick your practice groups and your partners/associates wisely. I have and it has made all the difference... in other words, don't f*** the summer up my goofing off, as it pays dividends in the long run.
not to toot my own horn, but they don't give away back-to-back AAU National Championships. And the whole throw-the-ball-into-the-garbage-barrel skill has its applications in biglaw too.
You're right I have a lot of GD money... Enough to get someone other than Fredd McGriff to promote my videos.. but I'm paying him his royalties in Candian dollars...

I have no pity for people who go to BIGLAW and get crushed. You must have known what BIGLAW was about, and you must have been aware of the demands that would be made. You decided to let money and "prestige" make your decision for you. Now you just have to live with the consequences until you can go inhouse or to a QOL firm.
