I'm just going to say it, I like that biglaw doesn't have a lot of black people

Deleting my account after posting this but I love that biglaw doesn't have a lot of black people. Why? Because I deal with them in the city, every day. If they're not physically attacking you, they're verbally abusing you and making life difficult for everyone. I wasn't racist until I moved to New York City but having lived here for 8 years, I am now, and I'm fully justified. Biglaw is my sanctuary away from that. I'll take verbal abuse from a partner any day over some unemployed bum trying to goad me into a fight as I wait for the subway.

I hope the mods won't delete this, though they probably will, but I'm just being honest and expressing a deep frustration I have with this city. Amy Wax is right.

Everyone has already (rightfully) been dunking on you, so let me focus on a few aspects of your asinine post. (1) It boggles my mind that you move to NYC — a place rich with diversity — and you end up racist. What that tells me is that you already were racist and was just looking for pretext to “justify” your bad opinions. You went out looking for selective life experiences (“bum trying to goad me into a fight”) that would make you feel like your racism was fine. Well, tough luck, it’s not. I live in NYC, and this idea that your daily life is made sooo much worse by black people seems based entirely on stereotypes and fear-mongering from people not actually experiencing NYC, that you came in with preconceptions, saw black people, and decided that you didn’t want to interact with them. I would not be surprised if they didn’t even physically attack you or verbally assault you, and all they did was walk in your general direction or speak at a volume where you could hear, and that was enough for you.

(2) Biglaw, a bastion of old white men in power, being your sanctuary tells me everything. You didn’t say your home was your sanctuary or even your favorite brunch spot. You chose biglaw as your sanctuary. I’m not even saying this from a position of “biglaw is 100% evil, there are no redeeming factors,” but it’s just fact that biglaw is small-c conservative and quite homogeneous (especially among leadership).
