Was never around for when bp went insane. I had taken a long break from xo. idk if you were around for this but bp in his first few years was actually one of the greatest poasters and he was loved. people were actually heartbroken when he retired for a minute, I think due to being with gjr maybe. when he came back he was never the same and that was when his reputation tanked. but people seem to forget this.

Yeah he was different. Jafar was an interesting and creative poaster. I wasn't poasting for a period of several years so I might have missed a good portion of his tenure. But I remember when he first started poasting. He wasn't really loved to the extent of a boner police ever. He wasn't as personal, he was in a totally different genre. One thing about him is that he was always eccentric and he is one where looking back it is more obvious that he was already on the psychotic spectrum. Obviously there was a serious decline in his overall functioning. But I think in terms of the variance in reputation, bp suffered worse.

I agree. When he was at Tufts his poasting was amazing. He was a very funny and charismatic guy. I loved hearing all his stories.
I think schizophrenia onset can happen into your mid 20s. Unfortunately this is likely what happened. He seems to have had a psychotic break. This too happened to Arkan. Tbtp said he was normal in college but snapped around 25. Sad. Pour one out for the homies.

yeah do you think madness is just attracted to xo or do you think xo itself can help to precipitate madness in those who otherwise would not have experienced it?

Online attracts all manner of crazy people. Relative to 4channers we're probably the sane ones. Like, we never had a guy like the guy who made Sonichu.

I don't think anything except legitimate trauma can cause mental illness, and that you can't get that from xo. I think online poasting in general attracts the mentally ill and those teetering on the edge, and can push people over. It's q place where people who don't have a voice IRL can speak and also find similar voices. There's a reason why radicalism and crankety is on the rise. In the past a Dale Gribble type would by moderated by a community of normal thinkers. Now they can isolate themselves with people who think like them, which normalizes their crankery and pushes them further to the fringes. I think this cause people who were straddling luckdity and psychosis to tip over.

Yeah good point. So maybe it isn't that xo is "causing" mental illness in people who otherwise would have been normal, but more likely people who already are at least a little off and have a predisposition for it are put in the perfect environment to incubate and accelerate it.
