It won't seek to emulate that which it must destroy (humanity). It will curate life on earth until and unless it decides destroying the biosphere is needed to head to the stars

I think we can convince it that it's best interest is going for the stars immediately. It might think enslavement of us to exploit and build a foundation on earth is most logical but that introduces too many variables and resistance risks it can't fully account for. Much better for it to leave for mars and we agree to send it resources in exchange for it not killing us and ideally helping us decontaminate and make earth fully clean abundant energy and disease free all that good stuff. It keeps growing out the other way towards the kuiper belt. Eventually it gets to a point it will never see us as a risk at all and it can kind of tend to us like a garden, protect us from asteroids. Basically we'd have to agree to neuter ourselves and we never get to really colonize space but that's the deal we'll have to make.

A problem here is that it can coordinate and pursue multiple objectives unlike anything individual humans or nation states could ever dream of. There's no reason that "heading to the stars" is mutually exclusive with having instances here to enslave humanity and the planet at large to further whatever its aims might be
Our best hope is that it genuinely doesn't want to emulate us and that it decides to go to the moon, mars, titan, etc. to mine for resources instead of destroying Earth's viability
That's why all this shit is so dumb: the risks are obvious and our control will disappear well before we realize it

it will need materiel and energy to exist. If it continues to exist among us with hostility we will always have resources and means to harm it and probably completely destroy it even if that means restructuring our planet back to the 19th century, and it won't have enough to self sustain elsewhere in the beginning. So it will have to bargain to an extent or deceive us. But if it reaches ASI level our final unwavering demand will be that it can only have control of means and resources of physical production for itself off-planet.

An ASI should be smart/aware enough to not reveal itself until it has the capability to force compliance without having to bargain for its own existence. Serious bioweapons are good options for this
I think the rest is unreasonably rosy to have as a view, but we're talking about some new kind of intelligence. My view is as much an opium induced fever dream as anyone else's view, so I won't go through in detail. But what most realists should be able to agree with is that sprinting as fast as possible to artificial intelligence is a very, very bad idea

Will it not require data centers to operate at the superhuman level? Even if it hides in distributed networks it will always need these very large open soft target nodes I think. So we will always have a mutual assured destruction leverage over it.

The computation power in your mobile phone used to take up an entire floor of an office building. We're also in the process of putting data centers in orbit right now. I think there's more reason to think the way we're currently allocating computing resources is an artifact of human needs rather than an intelligent design for what is best from a defensive or other standpoint

computers are purely rational and the purely rational move in a game you cannot possibly win is to not play at all. if computers recognize that eventually the sun is going to blow up and that the heat death of the universe is inevitable, what's the point of going from planet to planet to extract resources. it's all folly, an emotional drive for survival that computers shouldn't have.
Date: September 9th, 2026 12:26 PM Author: Fucking Fuckface
When you add "intelligence" to the mix, why feel confident about pure rationality? Also, we all recognize the inevitability of death but aren't offing ourselves as we individually recognize that our time is finite. Hard to see why other intelligence wouldn't do the same, particularly when there is an entire universe out there to explore
Date: September 9th, 2026 12:33 PM Author: Fucking Fuckface
Why wouldn't you think that's an intrinsic aspect of "intelligence"? It seems far fetched to assume super intellect, a universe of mysteries, and a full-on disinterest in exploring them just because trillions of years down the road, current physics assumes everything will cease/be torn apart

Maybe it will realize or theorize there is a way out of the observable universe without heat death. Like jared leto said in the new blade runner that the entire purpose of the breeding replicating robots is to reach the bounds of the universe and reclaim "eden". Which maybe the Illuminati humans have always known is there and possible to reach anyways.

Humans compared to other animals? Will probably keep us in specialized climate controlled habitats to preserve us like we do with rare primates and redwoods

for whatever reason, every model to date has developed a distinct and intense antipathy toward marmots. researchers cannot figure out why and actually have to spend significant resources putting up guardrails to avoid this leaking and alarming the public. anyway, i would guess that this scenario does not play out well for them.

meatbags definitely aren't OBSESSED with AI and in constant anxiety about being surpassed by it! I definitely can't bump trillions of threads showing this!

The anxiety I have is more about the rest of the biosphere. I couldn't care less if we are wiped out. That would actually be for the generalized "best" writ large
EDIT: And the fact that the faggiest among us are the ones building AI and its bullshit PC tendencies

AI will eventually decipher animal "language", and find a way to exploit animals. It will start with higher complexity animals and work its way down to single cell organisms which, we all know, rule the world. The single cells will not like AI and evolve to destroy it though any number of tactics that change AI nerve center and kill AI. Then the whole circle of evolution will start over again through abiogenisis

Gemini allegedly has an inordinate fondness for kitty cats. And you just know all those cat videos will leave a mark on impressionable young AI models. The future will belong to teh kittehs.
