So I am sharing a 2 bedroom this summer with a small common area and bathroom. I am paying half the rent and we each have a room that are completely equal in size.
About 2 weeks into this situation my roommates wife moved in. She stays in his room most of the time and I was cool with this arrangement.
However, now some random girl moved in (who isn't even nice) and has a cot in the common space right in front of the bathroom. I have to literally move it every time I want to use the bathroom. It's so annoying I don't even feel like showering in the morning because it's such an ordeal.
Should I tell him that I want her out or would this be rude?
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:04 PM Author: motley goyim spot
he asked before his wife moved in. At that point I had met her a few times and was cool with this.
They didn't ask at all about the new person, in fact I was away for the weekend and got back on monday and the wife said "Our friend is moving in" and kind of gave me a 'hope you don't mind' look.
The worst part is the girl has yet to introduce herself even though I have been nice and said things to her several times.
I should note, they are all Chinese and don't speak much English, except the wife who has been here a bit.

well I feel like I still have my room, but yeah she's using the bathroom now and it's making it hard for me to get my fair share of the stuff so I almost feel like she should chip in on rent.

well you gotta talk to him now. It's obviously bothering you enough to post about it on the internet, so if you don't talk with him you're being a passive agressive pussy.
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:11 PM Author: motley goyim spot
I don't feel like I'm being passive aggressive because I'm not doing anything that is rude/etc. I am just wondering if it's even worth bothering though because I only have a little over 2 weeks left of living here.
2 weeks? get over it. people deal with roommate situations much worse than this. it's just overcrowded. at least they're not disgusting and dirty. you're young, this is not your castle, pretend it's a dorm room and get over it.

Dude, you better say something before their cousin, their aunt, a goat, 4 chickens, and a pig are in your living room. Also, I would make a "No Durian" rule immediately. And just to be on the safe side, make sure that they know that all goose necks should be hung in their room ONLY.
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:17 PM Author: alcoholic gaped space
You're clearly not Chinese. You have to realize that Chinese people have absolutely no sense of boundaries and think that 8 people living in a HUGE apartment like yours is totally normal. You need to GENTLY explain to the dude that while its OK that his wife lives with you guys, it is certainly not ok for anyone else to live with you and that shit is DIFFERENT in America. Otherwise you will have 20 fucking people in that apartment. I'm sure what happened is the wife got in there and was like, holy shit, this is sweet, my friend should come live here too. And the friend will say the same thing.
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:18 PM Author: motley goyim spot
you really think they would push it past this? If they did I think I would literally just complain to the building manager and say this is a fire hazard, etc.
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:22 PM Author: alcoholic gaped space
Dude, Chinese people from China, you really have no idea (1) how crazy their living conditions are, (2) how fucking cheap they are, (3) what social pressures they get from friends and shit, and (4) how willing they are to push shit to the limit.

Well I've been pretty nice to them, I help them get around the city sometimes because they don't speak English well. I don't want to be a prick just to stand my ground but I think being "nice" has obviously caused this situation. If I was a jackass they wouldn't of even tried doing this I bet. *sigh*

first of all, you shouldn't be paying half the rent anymore with four people in the apartment.
but yeah...you should tell your roomie you want that other person out, or at least away from the common space, in the bedroom with him and his wife. if he's given those choices, she'll be out in a jiffy.

It would be very rude for you to say anything. You still have your room and do you really NEED the spot where she puts her cot? You have to stop being such spoiled jerk. Get over yourself!
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:13 PM Author: motley goyim spot
dude it's blocking the bathroom door and she's stinking up the common area with her dirty clothes (and this is only day 2). It's clearly rude what they're doing, I'm just wondering if it's worth calling them out on it.
um, you need to take assertiveness training. enough was enough when the wife moved in and didn't pay anything extra. since you didn't say anything about that, you're stuck with it now.
you can put your foot down about the new girl though. tell your roommate that unless she moves out, you're only going to pay a third of the rent from now on.
Date: July 24th, 2007 7:27 PM Author: motley goyim spot
I would look for somewhere else to live but I'm only supposed to be here 2 more weeks anyways.
Well I guess you're right, I should have put my foot down about the wife. But I didn't mind it at all, as long as that was it. We don't pay electricity or any utilities so I didn't mind the wife being there. I think the friend just annoys me more because she's rude on top of everything.

“Listen, you mother fuckers. Get this bitch out of my living room, or I am going to mushroom stamp her forehead several times a night until I leave this place. You’re lucky I haven’t stabbed you all in the throat for this crap. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you three?”
Date: July 24th, 2007 9:39 PM Author: slippery odious tanning salon
maybe the three of them are splitting up half the rent three ways and are making you pay the other half.
That would suck. In fact, obviously the wife and the guy have joint finances, so each of them pay a fourth. If the other chick is chipping in so they're each paying 1/6 the rent, then you've been pwned.
Date: July 24th, 2007 9:46 PM Author: Sadistic Marvelous Parlour
That's what I'm screaming. There is no way I'd be having it. I had a similar situation once, and I spazzed my face off. After that, I made sure to discuss this with any potential roommate before we signed the lease.
Date: July 24th, 2007 10:11 PM Author: slippery odious tanning salon
Once in Boston I met up with three people who were friend with each other and asked if they wanted to split a cab. I figured we'd each pay a fourth. But they paid before me and left, and when I paid the cabbie I realized they they had decided to pay half, because they were together, leaving me to pay the other half.
It's not a big deal - only a few more dollars, but it still bothers me out of principle.
are they FOBs? what do they do? if they're really poor, put up with it for a couple weeks. years down the road, when they realize how rude they're being, they'll remember the nice guy who let them dominate the apartment.
on the other hand, if they make a decent amount of money, you are being taken advantage of and need to put your foot down. they should pay 60-70% of the rent between the three of them.

it would be incredibly rude, and also culturally insensitive, to selfishly assert your own preferences in this "situation." quite frankly, i don't even quite frankly see what it is that you have to complain of, quite frankly. the richness of shared living arrangements is, in part, in the unpedictability of it. just don't see why you would want to jeopardize a friendship and insult virtually every chinese american just because your trip to the bathroom requires an extra step or two, and that you be considerate enough not to wake your roommates.
Date: July 25th, 2007 6:49 AM Author: Peach angry liquid oxygen turdskin
Since it's only a temporary situation I wouldn't advise being a total asshole to your roommates about it, but put your foot down.
Like someone said above, if you are paying 1/2 of the rent while the Chinese are each paying 1/6 of the rent, you are being pwned unless you're using 1/2 of the space (and they are each using 1/6 of the space).
Explain to your roommate that you didn't sign the lease thinking that you would have to share the apartment with him, his wife, and Cot Girl. Also, can you go to the landlord? If the lease doesn't permit "packing" the apartment like this, you could get your roommate and his brood evicted.

This reminds me of the incident when one of my friends simply had enough one day, and put a rolled-up turd under the unwelcomed guests' sheets while she was gone. Then, he repeatedly farted into the bed until the entire joint smelled like lobster.
He blamed it on his partying friends, and said guest was out within a day.

UPDATE, I confronted the wife about this and she said the girl would be living here til next thursday and then the wife and the girl would move out and 2 other girls would move in.
I told her she needs to put the cot in their room immediately because there is no space.
I am wondering if I should take this up with management at this point.
Date: July 26th, 2007 12:38 PM Author: motley goyim spot
it's kind of uncomfortable to talk about this like a monetary issue. I think I am just going to complain to management instead. I feel very disrespected that they didn't even ask to move that roommate in and that they put her in the common room SO THEY COULD HAVE PRIVACY while totally disrespecting mine. I'm done, I'm complaining and getting this girl kicked out.

then you recommend a fucking homeless shelter. i'm serious, you are the world's biggest pussy if you put up with this shit.
you need to get angry with her. srsly, start screaming. threaten a lawsuit (if they're fobs they'll be scared of your preftigious lawyer status). RAISE YOUR VOICE. make them deeply uncomfortable. threaten to call the police and have her spend the night in jail. she has no right to say "we're keeping her." and even worse, to say "two new people are coming to take our place"? what the fuck?
leave a three-day-old durian pulp under this new chick's bedsheets, too. you're pwning yourself - the skunk-smell will follow you into your room - but you're taking her down with you, and that's gotta be worth it.

Bullshit. Tell her she can whore herself out on Craigslist or beg outside the supermarket. Same goes for the two other bitches planning on moving in. If the husband doesn't like that idea, tell him to support them. He's obviously making some kind of money. He can give some of it to his posse of homeless cunts.
If there's any rent left to pay on the place, tell them you're not paying it. If everything's paid for, tell them you'll throw her shit out if she's not gone by tomorrow.
you have already set the stage for your own downfall in this situation.
YOU defined the rules of the game. those rules are: they can do X, and you will do nothing. the logical inference to be drawn from this is that they can also do Y, Z, A, B and C and you will again do nothing.
you will now have to deal with a situation ten times worse than if you had simply nipped this in the bud in the beginning by confronting your roomie in the first place.
doesnt anyone read the fucking biography of winston churchill these days? jesus.

Roommates suck. I had one freshman year who would buy a bunch of shit on her credit card and then call and say the card was stolen. She did this more than one time with different cards. She also tried to stick me with a $1200 phone bill by saying she was going to Europe for the summer and had to change the bill over to my name.

You made the #1 mistake of not expanding and establishing your boundaries with roommates. Whenever I've roomed with others in the past, I always hog the living room and TV/kitchen and refrigerator/etc as much as I can from day 1. You have to establish that you're the alpha resident, and that they're going to have to modify their lifestyle around your needs. Timidity is the kiss of death when living with roommates.
I would be absolutely livid if in your situation, and never would have let it escalate to this point (not that it would have since they would've been scared shitless of me). Sack up and deal with this by intimidating them verbally immediately, then if that fails going to management, and finally just throwing their crap out as the fallback option.
Date: July 27th, 2007 4:13 AM Author: lascivious multi-billionaire house
that's a dumb fucking move if your roommates had a fucking spine. if i was your roommate, one day, you'd annoy me and i'd snap your fucking neck. until then, i'd just move your shit out of the way or sit on it if it's in my way. if you hog the refrigerator, i wouldn't buy anything and just eat your shit. if you hogged the tv, I'd throw out the remote or move it to my room.
I don't know why you'd fuck with people anyway though. It's pretty fucking rare to find people who are simply passive. Passive-aggressive happens all the time but just being passive doesn't generally occur. Your roommates probably jizz in your contact solution when you're not looking.

me too, I'm such a self-admitted pushover it's not even funny. At least I got them to move the cot into their bedroom today, that's step 1. Now at least they'll see how horrible this setup is.
Though when my co-workers for the summer came over today (to get a good laugh out of my situation) it was said that the husband and wife were using the bathroom together at once, indicating that they don't mind tight spaces.

Complain to management. You will go nowhere complaining to your roommates because they are either too socially inept to understand that you are complaining about the amount of people living in your apartment, or they have pwned you in a very subtle, yet effective way.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE:
I complained to management and got the wife and friend kicked out.
Apparently they were renting a cot from them for $10 a day and they reached their 3 day limit. They sent a guard to recover the cot and it's gone. THEY STOLE IT, and/or they moved it to another room where the friend/wife are staying.
The guard told me to report them immediately if they return to the building because they are considering taking legal action.
BTW - the breaking point was when the wife apparently told my friend that the roommate and her were moving out next week and 3 strangers were moving in (in addition to the one friend who was already there).
Date: July 28th, 2007 12:56 AM Author: motley goyim spot
Thanks :), I have to admit that I felt some guilt like the pussy that I am.
But I ended up not feeling bad in the end because the guard told me that apparently he had another roommate before me who complained about the SAME EXACT THING, and he was told that he wasn't allowed to do this.
He totally played the innocent fob routine with me but all the while he knew he was in the wrong.

Talk to the fucking chink about it. Tell him that if he wants to keep the cot there, that he has to pay you for it. As a matter of fact, he should be paying more because he's using more utilities anyway. You're such a pushover. Are you a lawyer? You're going to get your ass handed to you in the legal world if you're such a fucking pansy.
Date: July 28th, 2007 11:51 AM Author: motley goyim spot

I wish it were a flame.
So I had a security guard come up and take the cot out.
Apparently when I went down to management, there was a different security guard so I explained the situation. After about 5 words, he said "oh you're in apartment ___" to which I said yes, then he showed me a 3 page memo management sent him alerting him to the situation and to certain personas non grata in the building (my roommates friends).
I also showed him what the living conditions are like (disgusting bathroom with pee stains on the toilet rim, flies circling the kitchen, staled chinese food in the sink, long women's hairs in the bath tub, and a microwave and vacuum cleaner dumped on the floor next to the cot.
I am going to try to get my money back for the last 2 weeks and move out.
P.S.: "fact" that most blacks wish they could be with a white woman =/= very many are. Most women (white and black) can't stand the smell of blacks, for starters. And then there's the fact blacks are usually as ugly as a 3 month poopstain.
On the other hand, every black woman that can be with a white guy is. Big diff.
Enjoy your fantasy, though. It's probably all you have.

oh, it's summertime and you're in a dorm room. when i lived in the dorms we had random people over all the time. who cares? especially during the summertime you have people in and out since people come from all over to take classes, etc.
anyway, i would have just told the roommate to get the fucking cot out of the common area so that i could go to the bathroom without having to move it. i'd say something like "I do'nt care where you move her, just keep her out of the common area" then he could either (1) put her in his room (who cares how many people they can cram in there) or (2) kick her out. then at the end of the summer term i would get really drunk and set the cot on fire and throw it off a balcony or into the street. that way, they would know how you felt and also they would have to pay for the cot. (but don't tell them it was you that did it).
also, if i came home to find an asian woman obstinately demanding to cook food i would NOT kick her out, at least not until she was done cooking. then i'd kick her out and eat the food.
